This is a redo of an older one I've tried. Eighteen years ago, there was a never before seen meteorological event; a widespread show of lights was seen over the coastal city of Greenbriar. A cause for the event was never discovered, but for two years after, the effects were difficult not to correlate. Over ninety percent of pregnancies in Greenbriar in the following two years ended in miscarriage, still birth, or sickly children who lived short lives. There was also a disproportionate number of twins, but in the vast majority of cases, only one child survived. You are one of the few exceptions, those few babies who survived and were dubbed "The Greenbriar Miracles." You graduate today from Greenbriar High’s smallest graduating class since the city was founded. And that night, as you all celebrate your next step into adulthood, the lights come back into the sky. Over the next few days, you will begin to discover the powers you have been endowed with. This will be a super power RP, with the fun little twist that you do not get to decide your own power. It will be given to you by myself or a GM. A quick note about posting standard: there is none for size, but I would like to see basic spelling and grammar adhered to. If it's a weak spot for you, don't sweat it too much as long as you're willing to hear me out when I correct you on it(which I will do gently, and privately). If you are offended or annoyed about being corrected, this is not the RP for you. I reserve the right as the GM to deny any character, or request any change for any reason. I am not required to disclose my reasons. I expect respect to be given to myself and other players. I am not the hardass that this makes me seem, but past experience has led me to feel the need to include this bit. Also please do not apply if you are not willing to play with whatever power is assigned to you. CS: Name: Appearance: No anime, but anything else goes. Add in clothing style, not just a single outfit. Personality: Likes: Dislikes: Hobbies: Background: as all characters are similar age and from the same town, focus on family life and the like.
Thomas and Michael Morhaime: A pair of twins, brown hair, blue eyes, square features. Michael wears his hair short, and Thomas’ comes down to his shoulders when it's not pulled up. The freshest legacy members of the Greenbriar Rogues, and mechanics in Springer Automotive, the shop that Audrey’s grandfather owns. Solomon and Padma Majumdar: another pair of twins, but these ones fraternal. Mixed ethnicity, with an Indian father and African American mother. Both parents work in energy technology. The twins are pretty hippy dippy, and both very concerned with environmental sciences. Solomon surfs, but Padma is afraid of the ocean. Both are on a fast track to a good college in California. Anthony Finch: in the same year as most of the characters. He is the oldest sickly baby from the lights eighteen years ago. He basically lived in hospitals until he was twelve, at which point his family just bit the bullet and brought the equipment he needed home, hiring a nurse to keep him alive. He attended school haltingly, and often had to leave in the middle of the day to rest.
Greenbriar, Oregon is a coastal town, but by no means is it a bustling port city. The city’s western edge sits right on a stony cliff that overlooks a stark, rocky beach. At high tide the water crashes all the way against the cliff wall, smashing everything and washing away the debris. The town is middling in size, and is sometimes seen as a quirky “downtown” to nearby Riverview, which brings in a lot of business from out of town shoppers. Most businesses are small and local, and many residents commute to Riverview, or further. Many townsfolk take pride in the fact that there is no Walmart in the city limits, and the local Starbucks doesn't do as well as Cliffside Cafe. Locales: The Beach: High tide comes right up to the cliff face, so no permanent buildings are made on the beach itself, but there is a switchback staircase carved into the rock of the cliff itself. Beach Street: A street that runs parallel the the cliff. It is the home of many a vintage clothing store, antique shop, and pleasant family owned restaurant. It also features many of the towns oldest buildings, including the courthouse, sheriff's department and mayor’s office Cliffside Cafe: A pleasant coffee shop on Beach Street, owned by a local family. It sits right on the cliff, and has both inside and outside seating that have a direct view over the beach and the sea beyond. Greenbriar High School: Only six years old, before it was built, students had to catch a bus into Riverview from ninth grade onward. It's a handsome building, with up to date teaching and learning tools, but it only accommodates a thousand students. Riverview Towne Centre: The closest mall, a twenty minute drive at the worst. If you want name brand clothes, it's the only place to go. Many local hipsters scoff at going to the mall, but a wardrobe from only the local small businesses would cost a fortune.
Name: Audrey Springer Appearance: A skinny girl with nut brown skin, and shiny, straight black hair cut in a pixie cut. Her almond eyes are vivid green, and her face is often without makeup, though her head is rarely seen without a hat. Her face tends toward the deadpan, and she dresses for comfort, usually in favorite ripped jeans and loose tops in the summer. Fall and winter will see more intact jeans and flannels. From her collar bones to about halfway down her breasts is inked black, from where she covered a Greenbriar Rogues tattoo after she ran away from home. It is not at all uncommon for her to be adorned with scrapes or gashes, and occasionally even stitches. Personality: Generally friendly and conversational in disposition, but her refusal to be stepped on often makes her come off as "bitchy." She's quick to remark that the same behavior in men would be considered normal. She does have to admit that she has a temper, and is easy to get in a fight with. This, along with her general vulgarity tend to get her in trouble, but she's quick to forgive her friends(not so quick to forgive an authority figure). She is a doer, one to find solutions to her problems, and one to do it herself. Fiercely independent, she hates asking for help, and hates feeling powerless. She's known for getting into fights, and isn't afraid even of people who could obviously hurt her very badly. She will absolutely bring a knife to a fistfight, or a gun to a knife fight. Likes: Loud and fast in general. Seafood, as well as the ocean. Pop punk and metal music. Dislikes: Authority, pretension, responsibility. Hobbies: Tuning her motorcycle, bar hopping(with a fakey). Surfing(a particularly dangerous hobby at the local beach, but there's a small following of people who do it anyway). Kickboxing. Background: Her paternal grandfather was a young GI, and his grandmother was an even younger girl from Korea who became infatuated with him and went back to Oregon when the war was over. At home, he became a mechanic and joined the local motorcycle club, the Greenbriar Rogues. His son became a member as well, but he produced a daughter(also from a woman he met overseas, though he had been stationed in Okinawa). Audrey had to fight hard to be seen as an equal around the shop and the Rogues' clubhouse, and never quite managed it in either place. She was expelled from Greenbriar High for decking a teacher, and dropped out of Riverview's school to just keep working at her grandfather's shop. She in turn left both the shop and the town after her generally sexist treatment at the hands of the men who worked there(including the ones related to her). She is only just now returning to the town, bitter and contrite after she has run out of money and ready to make some kind of amends with her family.
