I think it's fair to suggest that the "original" versions of his abilities would be more advanced forms of these spells that he could achieve with further practice and study. The system I was generally inspired by for his magic gives spells multiple different possible effects, depending on how your stats are allocated, and are meant to reward players with a diversified build.

With regard to the discord situation, I'm indifferent. It makes for more lively chatter but it's one more thing to check and for information to get lost and drowned out.

As for the room situation, I think having pairs of roommates and then a general common area would make for the most interesting setup. Although our current arrangement of bodies currently slants 6 female, 5 male, so take from that information what you will.
