His mindset is very much that of a student and scholar more so than an adventurer-to-be, showing clearly in his combat abilities or lack thereof. A much more civil upbringing where fighting and causing a ruckus are sure to end poorly has made him keen to avoid violence and trouble (which are the same thing, as far as he’s concerned). Mischief-makers are disappointing and a waste, but also generally not worth the effort of intervention. Misaiya likes to keep things clean and organised, though he’s not some sort of ‘OCD neat freak’ or what have you. It’s just that chaos makes life harder for everyone eventually, and a few hours of work now is worth avoiding headaches down the line. Plus, it’s pretty satisfying to catalogue and arrange things. Impostor syndrome has plagued him since young, and the dread of letting others (and himself) down is crippling for him. Moving to a foreign country has only doubled his self-consciousness. Praise is sweet to his ears, but the burden of the expectations that accompany it sometimes embitters the deal. Criticism is painful, yet he would prefer a harsh deconstruction of his life choices over minced words and saving face. Or so he says, at least. Easily swayed by others’ remarks, Misaiya is never entirely certain if he’s a genius or a fraud. Despite these fears, Misaiya actively seeks out challenges and difficult problems to solve. Of course, each setback shakes his fragile confidence, though he’ll put on airs of calm and conviction until a real success boosts him back up to normality or sometimes overconfidence. Maybe. In tests and contests, either fiercely competitive or totally relaxed, depending on how worth-it something is and how high the odds of success are. There is little middle ground to be had. Not to the level of toxicity, though - tutoring and helping others is a pleasure, as long as he actually knows what he’s doing and is able to make a real difference. If he doesn’t and can’t, see above. In speech, Misaiya practises code switching, using his native slang and creole in very informal contexts and unaccented acrolect otherwise. He is capable of the full spectrum, from elegant poet to coarse gangster, though he tends to stick to more refined vocabulary; even more so now that he is overseas. Even his own internal monologue can effortlessly transition depending on his mood and the situation. The Suanneipuan education system left him well-versed in the classics and the ancients, and also further equipped to create knowledge of his own. Misaiya is eager to learn and to discover, be it in or out of the classroom, under a teacher’s instruction or through self-directed efforts, from texts and tomes or practical work. However, he’s also at the age where crushes and kisses are becoming more and more attractive prospects. His studies still take first priority, and he’s definitely no flirt or pick-up artist, but he would not deny his interest in romantic relationships. History: Misaiya grew up comfortably in an upper-middle class household, staying in a shophouse in the nicest part of Suanneipua, an island city-state to the southeast of Genelogia. He enjoyed stability and comfort not meaningfully lesser than that of a noble house with none of the intrigue and politicking, a peaceful life with loving family and friends - more than many across all strata can boast of. Misaiya’s schoolteachers called him conscientious and motivated, his academic performance placing him consistently around the top of the level. His many and diverse extracurricular pursuits seemed driven by genuine interest and not mere criteria fulfilment. He got along well with his fellow pupils and had friends among juniors, seniors, and batchmates alike. He was in good health and rarely took absences. While others had to choose a dump stat between good grades, social life, and enough sleep, Misaiya possessed all three. Great expectations were laid upon the model student, and he did not disappoint. After completing compulsory schooling a perfect score, Misaiya applied to several educational institutions, at home and around Alrune. There were rejections and waitlists, some less expected but hardly shocking, but the number of acceptances was more than satisfactory - especially that of Avalice, the only truly surprising result. Having previously expressed no intention of becoming an adventurer, Misaiya’s decision to attend Avalice was not entirely predictable, but he was quite certain in his selection. The excitement and the pressure of moving overseas, of attending one of the world’s top schools, of bearing the hopes and expectations of so many people at home - the circumstances are complex and the future uncertain. Hopefully things will turn out well, but either way, Misaiya will do his utmost. Combat Information Classification: Might Mana Color: A homogenous opaque, achromatic grey, halfway between white and black. Mana Characteristic: Sterile, soulless, cleaned, vapid, planned, dull, controlled, inauthentic, sedate, bland, uniform, flat. Polarising for some, ‘awful’ in both the modern and the archaic sense of the word - more free-spirited types may think it eerie and overwhelmingly horrific in its Kafkaesque or Orwellian qualities, while a handful instead appreciate and are comforted by its stable monotony; to most it is just plain, neither pleasant nor repulsive. Equipment: An air rifle and accoutrements, sling, walking staff, machete Magic: None - while capable of channeling mana, Misaiya has so far been unable to turn this into functional magic. Techniques: Dexai - a sling and a staff alone may do little, but by their powers combined, a heavier projectile can be thrown farther albeit at some cost to accuracy. The transformation sequence is short and sweet too, as it should be. Aiming - by taking some time to line up the shot before firing, increased accuracy and targeting of specific spots becomes possible. Comes in very handy during plinking. First Aid - when approaching a casualty, recite the alphabet. Treat sprains with rice. Always give people an ample amount of time to talk about their tragic past. In the event of pain, consider philosophy. Don’t forgot soap in your planning. With the proper treatment, both emergencies and long-term recovery will be easier. Touch it with a Five-Foot Pole - for when the ten-foot doesn’t let you get intimate enough. Prodding and probing can reveal many secrets. Just be careful not to jab it too hard!
