Despite his condition, however, his character and status did not impede him in inheriting the throne. He was also both a wise king as well as a skilled military commander. He was a dynamic figure in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, despite the factionalized nobles seeking to use his sister and mother to get control or authority over the throne, and managed to keep the great Saladin at bay during his kingship. Despite needing help to put on armor and mount his horse by the time he fought at the infamous Battle of Montgisard, he had an incredibly keen mind and piously led his troops from the front without fear. No matter how many times he sought a regent to lead as his condition worsened, however, he continued to return and perform better himself when they all proved ineffective, indecisive, and otherwise as failures. Despite his victories and keeping the Kingdom of Jerusalem together, the lack of European support against Saladin (or seeing him as a greater danger), issues among his allies with each other, and internal political factions vying for power weakened his nation regardless. Even so he kept on, faithful and determined until the end to lead his people. To try to keep order after his passing he even set his young and sickly nephew, Baldwin V, as his heir while setting out conditions for inheritance if his heir died. Yet it would be with his and his nephew's deaths, and his ill-fitting sister and brother in law defying succession to seize control of the throne, that the Kingdom of Jerusalem would ultimately fall for good. https://www.nobility-association.com/TICAN%20Gazette/TICAN%20%20Gazette%20Nov.%2025,%202013.pdf https://nobility.org/2012/11/22/battle-of-montgisard/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldwin_IV_of_Jerusalem https://hekint.org/2017/01/30/the-remarkable-baldwin-iv-leper-and-king-of-jerusalem/ https://www.tfp.org/catholic-crusader-leper-and-king-the-life-of-baldwin-iv-and-the-triumph-of-the-cross/ Stats: Your ranks in STR, END, AGI, MAN, LCK, and NP. They can range from E to A (very rarely EX), as normally, and have any modifiers you judge necessary, as long their triggers are logical and everything is explained within reason. STR: B END: B AGI: B MAN: D LCK: B Class Skill: Magic Resistance: C -grants protection against magical effects. Differing from the Resistance effect that merely rejects Magical Energy, this ability cancels the spells altogether. Riding: B -is a Class Skill of Rider and Saber class Servants, denoting the ability to ride mounts and vehicles. Rider-class Servants will typically possess a high rank. It is said that dragon type mounts are an exception, requiring a different ability other than Riding. Most vehicles and animals can be handled with above average skill, even vehicles that did not exist in the time period one was alive in, for they are no exception. However, cannot ride the likes of Phantasmal Species such as Monstrous Beasts. Baldwin was noted in life to be an adept horseman, even when his condition left him needing help to get up on his horse eventually. Personal Skills: Limit of 3 for OC Servants unless a really good explanation is made. The instructions on rank are the same as above. Protection of the Faith: A -Is a Skill possessed only by those who have sacrificed themselves for a religious view. Despite being a form of divine protection, it is not a blessing from a higher existence. It is the absoluteness of one’s body and mind that was born from their beliefs. But if it is too high, it causes abnormalities in the personality. Baldwin was an individual who throughout his life was a very devout Christian, an individual known especially for his indomitable faith and bravery. He kept fighting to preserve his nation and the Holy Land from the Saracens and other enemies without and within for Christianity, even to the point he was being carried into battle on a litter to command his troops despite his deteriorating body. Military Tactics: C -Baldwin was a strong enough commander and military leader to have been a rival of Saladin during his short life, both defeating and driving his foe off multiple times to keep his dying kingdom alive. Such was Baldwin’s skill that Saladin even withdrew his forces from a siege when a debilitated and litter-bound Baldwin came leading a relief force. He was also wise in military matters for someone his age, from recognizing Saladin as the largest threat to his kingdom and other Christian holdings in the Middle East to even his move to try to organize an attack on Saladin’s power base in Egypt before it was too late. Leprosy: - -The condition of being a leper afflicted with leprosy. As a servant skill it is similar to “Battle Continuation”, but in this case just removes the sensation of pain and allows one to continue to fight and battle regardless of injuries. However, this skill does not grant any form of “higher vitality” nor “reduce mortality rate from injury”. It does not embody any sort of “ability to survive” either, but rather is the ability to push one’s damaged body to ruin. Any healing the servant receives is also reduced by twenty five percent. However, unlike in life he does retain the usage of his arms and legs as a Servant due to being summoned in his ‘prime’ physical state. Noble Phantasm: True Name/Title: Crucem Auream, “The Holy Sun of Victory” Rank: A Type: Anti-Army Range: 1-50 Maximum Number of Targets: 700 Description: A radiant golden blade which gleams like the sun, with a golden cross (containing a fragment of the True Cross inside) incorporated as the hilt of it. This weapon is the crystallization of Baldwin IV’s victory and his “calling upon the power of God to smite his enemies” at the Battle of Montgisard. At the titular battle, after bringing out and praying before this titular golden cross it “[shone] as brightly as the sun” and Baldwin slaughtered the far greater and stronger Saracen army...and very nearly killed Saladin in the process. Baldwin as a servant thus once again wields this divine power he prayed for against the Saracens in life, and the holy relic from which it came forth, as his weapon as a servant. The young king can activate this Noble Phantasm by speaking its name verbally in some manner, whether quietly like a prayer or even louder like a battle cry, unleashing a surging wave of radiant holy light “as [bright] as the sun” to destroy his enemies. The attack itself spreads out in a conical pattern, being at its thinnest at the point from which it was launched (Baldwin’s sword) but very quickly and exponentially widening as it moves forward. Misc/Other/Trivia: At the Battle of Montgisard this golden cross was brought out and raised at the behest of Baldwin IV, who prostrated himself before it and prayed for victory. When he and his troops then attacked the Saracens, the following occurred: “The young king with his hands bandaged, rode in the forefront of the Christian charge – with St. George beside him, people said, and the True Cross shining as brightly as the sun.” Not only was it Baldwin’s greatest victory, but it was also a miracle in and of itself. Literally speaking, Baldwin called upon and wielded the power of God in order to smite his enemies and achieve victory over Saladin and his forces. This is the form this Noble Phantasm takes in return. When he was sent to the Clock Tower, he ended up breaking free some and becoming a stoner who took on a relaxed, casual, and at times carefree attitude. Despite this, however, he did keep a focus on practicing his magecraft and proved to have an incredible potential and natural talent. He ultimately came into a certain Lord's class in Modern Magecraft Theory (Lord El-Melloi II), but did take some other classes in the Folklore and Creation Departments as well to supplement. In short, he was a rich kid from a strict home who broke out and ‘went wild’ after he finally got out and away from his old home life. However in his "main" class, or the one he spent the most time hanging around his peers from, he ended up picking up on a casual gaming habit and striking up a friendship of sorts with a “certain supremely talented idiot” after gaming with him sometimes for a while. Yet the biggest surprise for himself and those who know him, however, was when he eventually received a letter about this “True Holy Grail War” and received actual Command Seals. After Johann received the letter inviting him to the Holy Grail War in Black Rock, he was sent plenty of supplies and even a Superior Mystic Code for use in the conflict by his family. However, this came with the catch of an order: "Stay alive no matter what, but if you can win then use the Grail to acquire the Primeval Runes". Elemental Affinity: Fire, Earth Origin: Inscription Quality of Magic Circuits: A Quantity of Magic Circuits: A Crest: 900 years old Magecraft: Any important details relating to your character's magecraft skills. This can include, but isn't limited to their family crest (if they have any), their magecraft foundation, any signature spells, sorcery traits (especially Mystic Eyes, if they have any), and a general overview of how good a mage they are. -General Magecraft -Freischießen ("free shooting"): A magecraft revolving around the creation of various types of magic bullets that are “destined to hit their target” (basically pretty good magic homing bullets). In the case of the Wald this unique magecraft was acquired hundreds of years ago in the 14th century, when a past family heir made a pact with an unidentified monstrous being for magical knowledge. Instead he got knowledge on this magecraft, though, which was ultimately incorporated into the Wald Family due to him being far too stubborn to let the matter go. Since then it has become a time-honored art among the Wald, with runes incorporated onto these magic bullets and their casings to add a further depth of use to their craft. -Runes: One of the Thaumaturgical Systems that originated in Scandinavia during the Age of Gods, and are symbols that, once inscribed, automatically realize mysteries accordingly with the meaning that they represent. They are composed of only straight lines and have similar mechanics to the Magic Crests. Can be used in combination to enact other effects, including creating Bounded Fields. -Elemental Magecraft (Fire, Earth) -Family Crest: 900 years old Mystic Codes: A wizard's tools. Make a mention of any important mystic codes your character may have with them, as well as their main functions. Generally speaking, no sane mage would leave for a Holy Grail War (or leave home at all) without bringing a few tools with themselves, so keep this in mind while building a character. -”Mjolnir and Gungnir”: A pair of custom guns he possesses, either through acquiring them or them being handed down. They have each been designed and modified to be “one of a kind” and be most compatible with the family’s magecraft. Their components have been treated with magecraft as well to boot, and runes have been engraved on them to silence their shots and minimize recoil to boot. ***Custom Engraved Mauser C96 “Broomhandle” Pistol: A unique and very well-maintained pistol manufactured for a past head of the Wald family, it is engraved with unique wilderness and hunting designs on both handles. It originally chambered 9x25mm Mauser ammunition, but has been modified to be able to switch out barrels and fire a .357 Magnum round. It has a gold-colored plated exterior to boot, though it has been balanced out for actual use. ***Custom Calico M950 Semi-Automatic 9mm Pistol: A customized gun, utilizing 100 round helical magazines, a unique 5.5 inch barrel, and boasting a custom-shaped handle to ensure easier handling and to balance out the gun’s weight properly with the unique barrel. Misc/Other/Trivia: Anything else not covered by the sections above that you may judge to be relevant (like an unhealthy obsession, an important secret, a very strong goal, their personal ethos, etc). Please keep this section short as well. Preferably have this in bullet point format, if there's any information to add. -The Wald Family: A very old family of German magi who are the current owners of the spiritual land of Tirier, which has been the oldest and longest inhabited city in Germany for over 1,300 years. Likewise the family itself is rather old to boot. Wielders of Runes, they have long kept up the practice of their art and acquired a rather sizable library of them to use. They even eventually acquired a unique gun-related style of magecraft, one which they ultimately found to be compatible with their magecraft as well as complimentary to their combat style in an ever-changing world. Their grand goal has, as it has ever been, to find and collect a set of each of the Primeval Runes in order to use them to form a path to the Root. To this end the search for, acquisition/collection of, and storage of various these and things like Primeval Rune replicas are all seen as key to the family’s goal and are very actively sought-after. The Wald have multiple children per generation as well. While one will naturally be the heir and learn magecraft, however, the rest live normal lives and are resources for strategic marriages, redundant backups, undertaking searching efforts around the globe, and other similar roles that can be used to get the family closer to their goal. -Suitcases of Supplies: Include plenty of prepared magic bullets, money, clothes, a pair of subtly purchased Mystic Eye Killers from a certain mage for self-protection, packs of joints and lighters he added to it all, an advanced first aid kit, and other things generally needed to stay and get by day to day in an isolated place such as Black Rock for the duration of a Holy Grail War. Special Boon: Safehouse - His family has ahead of time set up a place for him to stay during the course of the Holy Grail War, stocked with mundane food and water and even a proper bounded field.
