Name: Dustin Waters; goes buy "Rusty" Age: 34 Appearance: Subjects' hair has not fallen out, but ceased to grow? Bone structure has changed dramatically; a cartilaginous mesh has formed within the skin, toughening it considerably, like an exoskeleton. In addition, his toes seem to have reduced to nothing, while the bones of his feet have fanned out and stretched, giving him paddles instead of feet. To top it all off, the bones in his thumbs and middle digits have fused, and extended to at least double their original length, tapering to points and forming an approximation of pincers. Background check: Subject was formerly a Federation Rations Dispenser; dismissed for violating strict regulations on household food distribution, giving unauthorized additional items to families. Participation in the Neptune Experiment was offered as an opportunity to dodge the Federations' "Kangaroo Court" as a form of community service, unaware that it would be the start to a whole new life for him, and not just a commuted sentence. Personality: reserved, but friendly Genetic modification: Blue Swimmer Crab Personality after modification: Standoffish, keeps to himself a bit more, and rather rigid on maintaining personal space (other subjects that approached too quickly for his liking were met with him turning to face them, arms outstretched and pincers wide open. Similar behavior towards those who come too close, persistence drives him to quickly and suddenly swim away to maintain a distance). It's speculated there was an unexpected affectation of the subjects' brain, instilling some instincts less like a primate, and more like that of an arthropod; much more survival driven, and all other creatures are classified unconsciously as "Threat/Food/Mate". Higher brain functions remain, though, and subject is quick to calm down and resume more primate like behavior/"acting human". Nonetheless, seems to prefer the company of other subjects blended with arthropods. Abilities: mobile swimmer; subjects' anatomy and reflexes allow for bursts of considerable speed over short distances, can turn in place easily, and can even swim sideways as effectively as foreword! Tough skin provides a stronger constitution, and greater anatomical tolerance for pressure at lower depths. Pincers are strong enough to keep hold of objects and even live creatures with little difficulty. Has yet to experiment with ability to do harm. Side effects: Flexibility is considerably reduced; subject still able to bend his spine and look up, but can no longer turn his own head at the neck (whole body must turn to look directly at something, or subject must rely on improved peripheral vision). Motor function is similarly reduced, likely the "pseudo exoskeleton" has reduced the flexibility of the skin itself, making it more rigidly hold certain shapes, while the structure itself only has so much flexibility, compounding the impediment of normal human motor skills. The formation of the pincers has not removed manual dexterity outright, but what amounts to a loss of thumbs has complicated manipulation of small objects, as has total loss of flexibility in the wrists, but otherwise the subject is managing well enough with remaining digits and practice. Still capable of walking on land, but previously defined side effects and anatomical changes have left him incapable of running, and subject moves faster sideways, balancing on his paddle fins as best he can (looks a bit silly, honestly) Likes: watching the other subjects from a distance, sharing food, finding cozy places to hide when resting Dislikes: surprises, leaving the water (since the change) Extra: Very nervous about the others finding out he used to work for the Federation...
