Lamech, Son of Methushael
Lamech, the Great Great Great Grandson of Cain, rules over the city Enoch, founded by Cain over two thousand years ago. Situated in the desolate wilderness of Nod, Enoch rises from the scrubby wilderness as a chaotic skyline of plaster towers and mud brick walls fashioned from the muddy ground on which the city was built. The waters of the abyss seep up to the surface as muddy oases, providing the nomad Cain both arable land and drinking water that prompted him to settle down at last. The City of Enoch is now the world's most populous city. A great majority of Enoch's denizens are starving paupers living in squalor and misery while their Lord's entourage and courtiers lead decadent lives under the lapis lazuli dome of the Palace of Mehujael. Constant discontent simmers among the masses, and must be kept in check using both brutal enforcement of Lamech's laws and tolerance of vices outlawed in other parts of the world. Brothels, opium dens, taverns, and other unsavory enterprises are permitted within Enoch's walls so long as Lamech's tax collectors get their cut. Criminals are executed violently to keep their peers in line, often in bloody public spectacles hosted in the Pit of Enoch - a great stadium where bloodsports are held to pacify the mobs. It isn't just his unruly populace that Lamech must contend with, but rival city-states with smaller, more-manageable populations. Eruthros of Sudara poses the greatest threat, as only he can match Lamech's avarice. For now a tenuous detente holds between Enoch and Sudara as Lamech and Eruthros currently seem more interested in domestic affairs. Nevertheless, spies and assassins of both lords are present in either city, and major rows could develop easily at a moment's notice.
