He spent a bit of time recovering from that incident and now carries a great sadness. His goal in life is to try to prevent that from happening to anyone else. 

He is, however, a product of his upbringing. This made him conceited. He has rarely failed at anything he put his mind to. Since he comes from a very structured family he does well in groups and taking orders, even if he doesn't entirely agree with those orders.

Ed is fairly understanding of other people and their ways. He knows his family isn't the right answer, but it is so encoded in who he is he doubts he could ever break one of the laws. Even if his life depended on it, and with the less intense scrutiny he now experiences. There is no one he would have to account for his actions anymore. As he and his grandfather are the eldest members of the mutants left.

[b][color=d19f6a]How did you discover your powers:[/color][/b] Edus is part of a family of generational mutants. They all are magic users. At 10 years old he was put through a rite of passage to force the mutation to activate. Edus almost died in the process (he has family who has died this way). The ritual is very intense and dangerous. When put into it the children aren't told what to expect. Not all of the children who survive even mutate.

Edus and his sister were partially submerged in water, while several of the family members put magical energies into the water. Since the tragedy in Cardiff, the remaining Family is uncertain if they will be able to still perform the rite. 

[b][color=d19f6a]General History:[/color][/b] Ed was born to a decent sized family. His father had several siblings who all also had children. The male line carries a particular mutant gene. That, when activated through a rite, perfected through generations, gives them the ability to use magic. Each male had a specialty. 

Ed was raised in the family ways from day one. The only difference for him was he had a twin sister. Because they were twins, they allowed his sister to go through the trial with him. When his heart stopped, she used magic to heal him. She became the most potent healer in the family. 

The pair were close, and nigh inseparable. Ed was out of town working on a project when Thanos destroyed Cardiff. Almost his entire family died that day, including his twin sister, and father. Ed felt it half a world away. His mother (human), an uncle (mutant), great-grandfather (mutant), and some cousins live. They were either out of town or got lucky.

His family had believed in secrecy, but it was never officially one of the tenants of their laws. As they thought they should be allowed to tell their spouses. Pissed and broken-hearted, Ed set out to protect the world. He couldn't bear to see the devastation and left Cardiff. While Ed lost some direction in his life with the loss of most of his family, he gained a new desire.

Ed did inherit a small fortune with the death of his father. He considers it a tool.

Once Ed felt comfortable joining the world again, he started searching for potential ways to help people. He knew that relations between humans and mutants were tense. He had heard of the x-men before, and similar groups, there was something about the mission of x-men that resonated with Ed. He did spend a bit of time deciding since he knew Xavier was a telepath. Since he feels that people who are not members of his family do not have to follow the same laws, he decided to ask any telepath he encountered to be respectful of his wishes and not invade his mind without his permission.
