I swear to god that if this baby doesn't stop screaming, I'll turn myself in to the Feds. Other than the baby screaming a few rows down, the lift off had been uneventful for Mellisa. No one had recognized her or tired to stop her from leaving the country, her "daring" escape went off without a hitch. Her trip to Norway was secure, people she knew there would give her keys to her new apartment. She didn't really know them, she knew them in the sense of you would know co-workers. Names and a face on a paper from friendly rebels at the bar. Prepared for the coldness of the outside, she had a nice cream-colored sweater on. It was a gift from her mother right before she left, it was hand-knitted and had the smell of home on it. A blend of spices, the smell from her dog, and the lavender they always had hanging up. It was the only thing that kept her connected to home now, she gave up her last name when she boarded the plane; the Federation would have a harder time tracking her if they wanted to. She didn't want to leave in the first place either, she would happily let the Federation take her. However, her family and friends would be punished if the Federation found out they had harbored her. The baby has finally stopped screaming, they flying smooth for the next 18 or so hours. Oh thank you Christ! Maybe I'll get some sleep now.
Many hours, a few movies, and many, many airplane peanuts later, they safely landed in the airport. Standing up and taking a breath, she slowly clambered out of the plane with the other passengers. In the terminal, she spotted the people she was supposed to meet; nondescript and holding a sign. They escorted out of the airport and to her new apartment. "You should get familiar with the streets, many escape paths are around if you know where they are." One said. "Yes," followed the other, "get familiar with the people and learn how to blend in." "Good luck, and welcome to Norway." They both said in unison, which was a bit unsettling. She did as they advised and walked the streets, popping in and out of shops, practicing her clunky Norwegian. In a alleyway, she saw someone who didn't quite fit into the crowds. They seemed to be a scientist with the look to prove it. A vague curiosity took over her and she followed him, almost getting caught a few times. She had followed them for quite some time, and was getting bored of it. But her curiosity was soon again piqued when they entered a building, and she followed suit. Inside it resembled a lab, all white and smelled of bleach. Soon guards surrounded her and kicking and screaming, they drug her to a room. "Who are you and how did you find this place? Are you with the Federation?!" questioned a scientist, different from the one she followed "First off, my name is Mellisa, I followed a guy here, and absolutely not. I'm not a bootlicker!" Mellisa fired back, slamming her hands on the table. Through a near shouting match, Mellisa learned that she followed a scientist belonging to a organization planning to leave the Federation, and now that she knew about them, they gave her a choice. Have her brain wiped of this encounter or join them. She joined them of course, looking for anyway to rebel against the Federation. The scientist informed her of a experiment, where they would modify her genetics. She agreed after being notified of the procedure, then was taken to an operating room. On the way she saw several others that weren't in uniform. Assuming they were other participants, she lightly hoped to meet them later. She changed into a hospital gown and prepared herself. As anesthetics were kicking in, Mellisa wondered what animal she would get. A shark? A shrimp? Maybe a dolphin! These thoughts soon muddled together as she felt herself slip away.
