The fix for this was more time consuming than it should have been. Top-level VMs that are posted on your wall should display the VM content and if someone replies to a VM thread that's either on your wall or it's a thread you've replied in, the "new VM reply" notification now properly links to the VM thread the reply came from.[sup]*[/sup]
