If I remember correctly, we're in the year 2280, so the Followers still exist since New Vegas starts in 2281. The only problem is that we'll be on the East Coast, not the West, and the Followers are based out of California. But I've no doubt they might've sent people Eastward or a different faction with very similar goals would be around.
