Have you ever played Star Citizen? I have sunk quite a few hours into that game and it's a lot of fun. It generates an entire solar system within a single giant instanced space box, and you can go from your bed on a space station to the hangar to get in your ship and then down to all the planets without any loading screens other than when you first connect for the session. The Freelancer ships remind me of Serenity some. My friend Kenny and I go on mining missions a lot and it's always kinda scary when we're traveling back to a port with a full cargo -- pirates sometimes pull ships out of quantum travel and then it's a firefight. One time I landed my ship in a restricted zone and then woke up in penal colony, lol.

I remember seeing a lot of Star Citizen in development stages but I've never played it. Didn't honestly realize you could. I'll have to check it out.
