She wasn’t the “queen bee” or “popular” type, so she’s never particularly cared about her appearance as much as others. With limited free time most people recognized Katie by her waitress get-up than anything else. She never really knew much of her parents, though some people in Rushford often talk about them like they were the best of people. She supposes it is all part of her “tragic backstory” that fate stripped her of a father who died in Iraq and a mother who passed away from cancer when she was eight-years-old. The only thing she’s really known is the family diner and her grandfather. Much like any kid from Rushford, she’s wanted to get out. For Katie, the idea has always been Austin or Nashville. Somewhere she could pursue her dreams that she never talks about. Music. Funny how things don’t really turn out how you want to, though nobody could’ve predicted a pandemic of this scale and consequence. Nobody ever told you that you’d have to bury your grandfather during a panic. Unlike others, ironically enough, it had been the stress and worry that had got him. A heart attack. It was probably better that way, or at least that’s as much of a rational thought that Katie has found herself able to process. She’d rather him pass on like that then catch whatever the infected were becoming. The diner’s all that’s left. Well, outside of actually burying her grandfather. She wasn’t sure what to do when a few other Rushford locals entered the diner, but she was glad to see them.
