While a small nation, Caziar maintains good relations with all its neighbouring kingdoms. While similar to many other lands in terms of the makeup of races, Caziar is well known for being very religious, worshipping the light deity Amaldi. Anyone who is not part of this religion is viewed as odd and most likely sinister in intent. While he seems to be quite skinny, beneath his clothes Naldir has a very well toned body and is quite muscular. Beneath the grey cloak he wears, one can see Naldir’s very pale visage, almost like snow. Both eyes are a milky white and without irises, as it is with all Aasimar. A messy crop of light blond hair sits at the top of his head, clearly not having been combed in a while. Various scars adorn Naldir’s body, from a lifetime of conflict. However, his face is still blemish free and would be considered quite handsome. Since he has fallen, Naldir’s light is now black in colour. [sub]Shield Fighting[/sub] While Naldir does wield a sword, he is much more comfortable using his shield in battle, as both a means of defence and as a weapon. [sub]Religious Lore[/sub] Naldir was raised in the Church and as such possesses a wealth of knowledge about rituals and deities, particularly the god Amaldi. While far from their first child, Naldir’s birth was notable in how he looked. While both of his parents were human, Naldir was born an Aasimar, a being with divine heritage. The Kadim’s marvelled at the young Naldir, believing his birth to be a sign of good fortune. News quickly spread to nearby farms of the birth of an Aasimar, and soon the local clergy got involved. A priest of Amaldi, the god of light worshipped in Caziar, inspected the young Naldir and agreed that he was an Aasimar. But this confirmation meant that young Naldir would be taken from his family and brought to a temple in a nearby town for training. So, while only a few months old, Naldir was taken to the nearby temple, and destined for a life of service to Amaldi. As soon as he could talk, Naldir was taken through the literature and lessons of Amaldi, taught why he should dedicate his life for him. As he grew, though he was around other young acolytes, Naldir did not make any friends, believing that it was because he was an Aasimar. Naldir grew lonely, retreating into stories he read of warrior saints fighting for Amaldi. These stories inspired Naldir to pursue the path of a paladin in service of Amaldi. As Naldir grew older so did his body, as he became well toned and athletic. He was transferred to another temple, this one larger and in the city, to officially begin training as a paladin. It would be there that he met his first true friend, Zala. She too was an Aasimar, making it the first time that Naldir had met his own kind, and was also training at the temple. She was a few years older than Naldir and well into her studies as a cleric. The two immediately hit it off and became close. There would be rumours at the temple but that the two were involved, but it was not true. Zala had been seeing a local merchant named Luto in secret, while Naldir was asexual. This bond only deepened through their years studying together. Years past and Naldir officially became a paladin, swearing a lifelong oath to Amaldi. Given the weapons and armour of a paladin, he was assigned to escort travelling priests who may be attacked by bandits. He did this for several years, earning several wound when he did run into bandits. Eventually, he was made the personal guard of a bishop. While returning to the city where he spent most of his life, Naldir arrived just in time see a horde of Orcs rush out of the city, leaving it in flames. Naldir ran to the temple to make sure everyone was alright. Zala was there, revealing that Luto had been killed in the raid. Both of them were very upset over this and decided to track down the Orcs. That night they left their posts and tracked down the Orcs. They surprised them, killing many in their sleep. Soon, most of the Orcs would awaken, leading to a deadly battle. During it, Zala would be struck, collapsing to the ground. Believing her dead Naldir flew into a rage slaying many Orc warriors, before blacking out. Naldir would awaken to find himself sitting among the dead bodies of an entire Orc tribe, and not just the warriors. Realizing what he had done, Naldir went into a state of emotional shock, as he felt his divine powers leaving him as he fell from grace. Looking around he found the body of Zala, only to discover that she was still alive. Picking her up, Naldir took them both back to the city. When they arrived they were met with many questions, Naldir answering honestly. When the bishop had realized what they done, they were offered a chance to admit their sins and walk the path of redemption. Still in a fury Naldir blamed them for making him how he is. He then left the temple and Zala behind, never returning. Naldir travelled east for a while, looking for somewhere he could disappear. He found such a place when he entered the swamps of Torvelt. It would be there that he settled, working at a local bar and inn, given a small room in the basement. For a few years things were good with this arrangement, but then the nightmares started. In his sleep Naldir would see visions of Almadi, the god urging him toward redemption. The dreams would start to affect Naldir as he began to feel the urge to do a good deed and become a hero again.
