[color=gray]Ragnarok, the end of the world. It would mark the moment where she gives in to her resentment and unleashes her people, the dead, upon Midgard. To be led by her father, Loki.

Failure of her duty. The dead need tenderness or punishment, depending on whom they are. At Helheim she could care for them but on earth her ability is terribly limited. With every passing year she fears what is happening to Helheim in her absence.[/color]

Oden, ruler of the Aesir, could not keep her in Asgard. So he assigned the freezing realm of Helheim to her. Where she would reign. Until Ragnarok begins. Then her realm will quake, the gates of Helheim will be flung open and Hel’s People will march towards Asgard, led by Loki.

As goddess of the dead, she tends to those who died “dishonorably”. The ill, the old, those who did not die in battle. These people are cared for with a loving, numbing embrace. To murderers and perjurers, Helheim unleashed her frozen glare. Making them suffer for an eternity. Her dominion will not be denied and even the gods are not free from death’s grasp. As is shown in the tale of Baldur Odinson. Who died and went to Helheim. Hermod, another one of Odin’s, descended into the realm and begged the Queen of the Dead for his brother’s return. She declared that only if every creature in every realm begged for Baldur’s return, she would release him. When a single giant refused to plead for the fallen Aesir, Hel made her will known and Baldur remained in Helheim.[/quote][/indent][/indent]

[indent][indent][quote]Hel did not think she would walk across Midgard before Ragnarok would ravage it. When she first opened her eyes upon the world, she felt a moment of elation. Before dread set in. The dead were without their caring queen. She had to return. At first she spend day and night amongst graveyards. Where the connection with the dead was still strong. This left her isolated and alone. A feeling she was used to. It didn’t take time until she became the graveyard keeper and diligently carried out her duty. It was around this period that she developed insomnia. Which she simply put to good use by tending to the graves, at day and night. The insomnia gave her a gaunt, hauntingly beautiful look.

Then once more her life was uprooted. Once more she tended to the graves, this time in Seattle. Alone. Unwilling to look up any of the Aesir and Vanir, who never came to visit her in Helheim either. At night she used her insomnia for a nobler purpose: to become a doctor through night schooling. Years faded into eachother, as did day and night. Every hour was a repetition. As a doctor, Hel was adept not at curing patients but at making their final moments peaceful. As well as accurately identifying the reasons why someone died. She gained quite some fame amongst the Seattle Courthouse as an expert on cadavers and corpses.[/quote][/indent][/indent][/hider]
