Over the years, he has been known by many names, and yet, one way or another, his reputation has remained the same. Born to the priestess Cลฤtlฤซcue or โ€œserpent skirtโ€, Xolotl was always something of a black sheep. Twins were seen as unnatural among the Aztecs, an omen of misfortune and ruin; and so, one of the twins would be taken away from their mother at birth and killed. Xolotl was fortunate enough to escape such a fate, though he often finds himself wondering if his survival was truly a blessing or a curse. His twin brother, Quetzalcoatl lived freely under the light of the sun. The Feathered Serpent was also known as the Precious Twin, and shone brightly in all his glory. Xolotl, on the other hand, was left to lurk in shadow, guiding the souls of the dead through the underworld. And every night, as the sun dipped beneath the horizon, he would remain sentinel as it made its journey through the darkness to rise again at dawn. Of course, with any mention of the sun, Xolotlโ€™s legacy cannot be forgotten. Itโ€™s a shade that follows him wherever he goes, whining and worrying at his heels like a hungry stray. There are many who would call him coward for what heโ€™s done, and indeed, they would be well entitled to. After the creation of the Fifth Sun, the other gods sacrificed themselves willingly to Ehecatl, the God of Wind, in order to spur the newborn sun into action. Xolotl acted as executioner. One by one, he slayed his kin, staining the earth with their heavenly blood, but when it came time for him to do the same to himself, he fled. As an expert shapeshifter, Xolotl changed himself into a multitude of forms to evade capture โ€” first a maize plant, then an agave, and then an amphibious creature known as the axolotl. Xolotl was eventually found and slain, however, finally giving Ehecatl enough power to move the sun, but the damage had already been done. The name of Xolotl would become stained by ignominy and spoken of with contempt for years to come.

๐—›๐—œ๐—ฆ๐—ง๐—ข๐—ฅ๐—ฌ

Xolotl remembers. He remembers when he first felt the irresistible pull of the Colossus. He remembers the colors of the sky as it began spinning out of control. But most of all, he remembers the cold. It was as if a hole had been torn into the very fabric of his being, and as he walked upon the ground for the first time, black earth burying itself into the creases of his feet, he was struck by howโ€ฆ empty everything felt. No longer could he feel the buzz of power flowing through his veins. Now, there was only desolation. For many years, Xolotl kept to himself. All that time spent in the underworld listening to the final confessions of the dead had given him a rather skewed perception of humanity. He regarded them as one would an ant โ€” small, inconsequential, but also: ravenous. He had seen with his own eyes what they were capable of in their constant pursuit of more. Powerful kings leading their armies across foreign lands, taking what they can and burning the rest. Thieves with gaunt, hungry faces rifling through their victims pockets, letting the cold bite of a dagger do the talking. Xolotl, with his vicious, snarling visage, might have been known as the god of monsters, but it seemed to him that the humans needed no help with their own monstrous deeds. Yet, a part of him yearned for the power he once possessed. Time, he knew, waited for no one, so he made a decision. He would immerse himself in the going-ons of the mortal world, gather wealth and influence where he could, and then, when the time is right, seize the Colossus for himself. While the old Xolotl was able to call down lightning from the heavens and speak to the dead, the new him learned power of a different kind. Over the years, he worked to position himself as an advisor of sorts to the rich and influential, though he took care to keep out of the limelight. Most of his work was accomplished behind the scenes, a little nudge here and there to push things towards the desired outcome. It suited him. He was used to staying in the shadows, after all. Xolotl first made his name in law in the early nineties. Gone were the days of kings and queens, corporations became the rulers of the new millennia, and people now faced judgement within the walls of a courtroom. Still, he adapted readily enough. Navigating the judicial system was not so different from the palace intrigue of yesteryear, and he took to his new vocation like a duck to water. He worked his way up the ranks at a brisk, steady pace, starting out as a paralegal before becoming known as one of the most accomplished business litigators in America, renowned for his ruthlessness in handling class action lawsuits. His ties to the Colossus, however, meant that he could never stay in one place too long, which he supposed was just as well. After a decade or so, people start to wonder why you never seemed to age. And then, five years ago, Xolotl found himself having to relocate yet again. This time, he was able to join a private law firm almost as soon as he set foot in the city. One of the firmโ€™s co-founders, Jonathan Messier, had heard of his success in Washington, and thought him a worthy protege. Within three years, Messier had retired after a health scare, and Xolotl managed to buy out his majority share in the firm. He decided to keep the name, though. Beaufort & Messier had a certain ring to it, and as mortals liked to say: if it ainโ€™t broke, donโ€™t fix it. So for now, he makes the most out of the life heโ€™s been given, patiently awaiting the day he can finally carry out his plan.

[sup]
XOLOTL RELATIONSHIPS XOLOTL RELATIONSHIPS
[/sup] โ˜…
XลŒCHIPILLI XลŒCHIPILLI
[/sup]

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… โ€ข โœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟ โ€ข โคโคโคโคโคโคโค โ€ข โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ– [sub]The relationship between Xลchipilli and Xolotl can best be described as tepid. This shared stigma has drawn them together, with the creation of the Colossus bringing them closer still. Between the two of them, thereโ€™s a camaraderie that exists far beyond your typical kinship. In fact, Xolotl has almost come to see Tlazลlteลtl as something akin to family, and more of a sibling than Quetzalcoatl ever was. Where do we even begin with this one? Itโ€™s no secret that throughout his entire existence, Zeus has gotten into his fair share of trouble โ€” burned some bridges, stuck his fingers into pies he had no business disturbing โ€” but what did he care? Heโ€™s Zeus, goddammit! Vanquisher of the Titans, King of the Godsโ€ฆ And with a resume like that, thereโ€™s no way in Hades he was going to let anyone tell him what he could or could not do. But how exactly did Zeus come to be? Long story short, he was born to the Titans Cronus and Rhea, with Gaia foretelling that Cronus would one day be overthrown by his own son, as he had done his father before him. So as soon as his children were born, Cronus devoured them. Zeus, however, was able to escape the fate that befell his siblings when Rhea tricked Cronus by giving him a rock wrapped in swaddling instead. Many of Zeusโ€™s formative years were spent hidden away in a cave with nothing but a goat named Amalthea for company, which maybe explained some of the, uhโ€ฆ issues he would have later in life, but thatโ€™s a story for another time. Fast forward a couple of years, and Zeus, all grown up, marches up to Cronus in disguise and challenges him to a drinking game. Now Zeus liked to think of himself as a man who could hold his liquor, but there was too much at stake here for him to take the risk of a fair contest. Luckily, he came prepared. The Titaness Metis had given him a mixture of mustard and nectar with which to spike Cronusโ€™s drink. It was meant to induce the expulsion of Cronusโ€™s stomach contents, and boy, oh boy, expel they did. One by one, back up the hatch they went โ€” Poseidon, Hades, and the rest of Zeusโ€™s siblings until finally, everyone had been freed from the murderous jaws of their Titan father. Zeus doesnโ€™t like thinking about it, really. It was a pretty gnarly sight. Nearly threw up himself. And then with the help of Poseidon and Hades, Zeus banished Cronus to the deepest, darkest pits of Tartarus. The three brothers then split the world between themselves. Poseidon got the sea, Hades got the earth, and Zeus the sky. Pretty sweet deal, huh? Or at least it would be if the story ended here. A lot happened in the ensuing years โ€” he cheated on Heraโ€ฆ a lot, pissed Gaia off to the point where she sent her monster-children after him, and we canโ€™t forget about that one time he convinced Poseidon to raise a flood to wipe out all of humanity. So, yeah. Zeus is kind of a mess, and heโ€™s definitely got some demons he needs to work through, but who doesnโ€™t? Nobodyโ€™s perfect.

๐—›๐—œ๐—ฆ๐—ง๐—ข๐—ฅ๐—ฌ

Zeus was not a happy camper when the Colossus was first constructed. Who would be, in his situation? Ripped from his throne atop Mount Olympus, he was left to wander the earth without a purpose, and dealt with it the only way he knew how โ€” dispensing swift, bloody vengeance upon his enemies, and seeking out the company of beautiful people. So everything was fine and dandy at the start. Years, decades, centuries sailed right by as he frittered his days away doing the same things he always did, and for a long while, he was satisfied, though perhaps satisfied was too strong a word. He did those things more out of habit than necessity, like ordering dessert at a restaurant when youโ€™re already full. And heโ€™s not sure exactly when it happened, but slowly, he started gettingโ€ฆ antsy. It started out as an itch. A tiny, annoying tingle at the back of his mind. Then, somewhat alarmingly, it began to grow. It didnโ€™t matter how he tried to distract himself โ€” whether it be through copious amounts of drink or nighttime dalliances with strangers โ€” the feeling simply would not go away. Until one day, he had no choice but to acknowledge it for what it truly was. His conscience. Yeah, I know. Zeus? Caring about someone other than himself? Crazy to think about. But yes, as hard as it is to believe, it did happen. The seed of basic decency thatโ€™d lain dormant within Zeus for all these years had finally germinated, and he was fucking terrified. Terrified because he had spent so much of his life caring only about himself, and now, the consequences of everything heโ€™d done was finally coming back to bite him in the ass. He was estranged from his family. What friends he had were all sycophantic hangers-on whoโ€™d ditch him at the first sign of trouble. And to top it all off, he couldnโ€™t even shoot lightning bolts from his hands anymore. If it were possible for a god to have a midlife crisis, this wouldโ€™ve been it. And as he laid there in a tangle of sheets and warm bodies, he decided he would try and make amends with everyone heโ€™d screwed over in the past, starting with his family. Problem was, nobody really wanted to see or talk to him. Not that you could blame them. Zeus tried to be supportive, but he was also as subtle as a sledgehammer in his efforts, and he took their rejections as well as youโ€™d expect him to โ€” which is to say not well at all. After that trainwreck, it took him a few more decades before he got his shit together long enough to try again. Somewhere along the line, he managed to build himself an empire worthy of a king. Not literally, of course. Monarchy had gone out of fashion sometime in the 20th century, and money was slowly becoming the only thing that mattered. But for all his flaws, he has always prided himself on being an effective, if not exactly virtuous leader. And as it just so happens, those exact qualities were what made a good CEO. Who knew moral bankruptcy was part of the job description? Now, Zeus is known instead as Dean Sarandon, founder and CEO of Psychro Inc., an energy conglomerate based in Baltimore. Since relocating to Seattle, however, he has taken a step back from dealing with company affairs, leaving most of his responsibilities in his staffโ€™s capable hands. Itโ€™s not a terrible life, really. He gets to enjoy his semi-retirement by day drinking and playing the occasional round of golf at the country club; although he has been thinking about giving the whole โ€œmaking amends with his familyโ€ thing another shot. He is, after all, a changed man. And heโ€™s willing to do whatever it takes to prove it. โ€ฆOkay, that sounded a little ominous, but you get the picture.

[sup]
ZEUS RELATIONSHIPS ZEUS RELATIONSHIPS
[/sup] โ˜…
APOLLO APOLLO
[/sup]

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… โ€ข โœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟ โ€ข โคโคโคโคโคโคโค โ€ข โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ– [sub]Ah, the golden child โ€”โ€“ quite literally, in Apolloโ€™s case. Zeus being absent at Apolloโ€™s birth only to make a last-second appearance bearing shiny gifts largely sums up their relationship. Some might call it emotionally manipulative โ€” or gods forbid, toxic โ€” but Zeus thinks it more along the lines of doing the best he can. After all, she did sprout from his forehead, and who else can say that about their kid? But letโ€™s save that tale for another time. Zeus does love sharing embarrassing stories about his favorite daughter. Nevertheless, he canโ€™t help but feel like sheโ€™s beenโ€ฆ distant, lately. Zeus knows that Athena has always been an independent soul, often choosing to forge her own path rather than following the well-trod one, but all this time on Earth hasnโ€™t done their relationship any favors. Between Athenaโ€™s job as a detective at the SPD and Zeusโ€™ running of a multi-billion-dollar company, the two have had little chance to catch up; but now that heโ€™s loosened the reins on his empire, heโ€™s hoping thereโ€™ll be more time for him to check in with his little girl.[/sub]

[sup]
COMUS COMUS
[/sup]

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… โ€ข โœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟ โ€ข โคโคโคโคโคโคโค โ€ข โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ– [sub]Much to Hadesโ€™ chagrin, Zeus likes to think of Comus as an honorary granddaughter. Though apart from their shared penchant for overindulgence and excess, Zeus thinks that Comus is a breath of fresh air. Too many of their kind get caught up in minutiae, losing themselves in the static monotony of existence. Not Comus, though. Sheโ€™s someone who truly understands how chaotic and unpredictable life can be, and at the same time, celebrate it. In many ways, their respective personalities have always been like oil and water โ€”โ€“ Zeus: loud, hedonistic and quick to anger, and Hades: reflective, dour and calculating. But at the end of the day, Hades is still his brother, and he wants whatโ€™s best for him. I mean, he got him together with Persephone, didnโ€™t he? You really couldnโ€™t ask for a better wingman than Zeus, back in the day. Still, itโ€™s been tough getting in touch with Hades, though he hasnโ€™t been trying super hard, either. She definitely did her fair share of tango-ing. Take for instance the time she threw their newborn son from the top of Mount Olympus, or when she started an honest-to-gods war because Paris decided that Aphrodite was more beautiful than her. What heโ€™s trying to say is that itโ€™s complicated, but in a strange, confounding way, he thinks he might still love her. Just like Eros and Psyche were a match made in heaven, Zeus and Hera are a match made in Tartarus, and after two thousand years of gallivanting around the globe, heโ€™s finally ready to reconnect with his amazing wife. Just name the kid after her and call it a day. But somewhere along the line โ€” probably between the sixth and seventh Labours โ€” Zeus started thinking. He should do something about this. After all, Heracles was his son, and it was an insult to all of Olympus that he had to jump through these hoops like some kind of circus animal. Unfortunately, by the time heโ€™d made up his mind on what to do, [s]someone[/s] something else had come along to capture his attention. But, hey! New millennia, new Zeus. Well, first of all, Hermes is his son, and Zeus sort of has this new policy about not poking fun at his kids, but for him, he thinks heโ€™ll make an exception. And besides, he recently found that heโ€™d named a dog after him, so really, itโ€™s fair game. Everyone knows that the God of Travellers has always been kind of a trickster, zipping between realms like a jackrabbit hopped up on Red Bull and Mountain Dew. Heโ€™s also a huge fan of poking his nose into other peopleโ€™s business. Zeus figured out pretty early on that he could use this to his advantage, and often sent him on errands both to the mortal realm and the Underworld. Itโ€™s become sort of a recurring theme: Zeus sending his kids to do his dirty work, but Hermes never seemed to resent him for it like the others, or maybe heโ€™s just better at hiding his true feelings. All in all, the two have a fairly amicable relationship; and Zeus knows that no matter what happens, he can always count on Hermes to keep things interesting.[/sub]

[sup]
PERSEPHONE PERSEPHONE
[/sup]

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… โ€ข โœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟโœฟ โ€ข โคโคโคโคโคโคโค โ€ข โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ–โœ– [sub]Zeus doesnโ€™t really like talking about his relationship with Demeter. It was a long, long time ago, and whenever somebody brings it up, he swears he can hear Hera, wherever she is, start ticking like a time-bomb. But if thereโ€™s one good thing that came out of this spur-of-the-moment affair, it would be Persephone. Right from the start, the Maiden of Spring has been one of the few truly good things in Zeusโ€™ life, and sure, his actions might not always reflect that โ€” what with the whole โ€œsending her off to marry his recluse brother in the Underworldโ€ thing โ€” but deep down, he still cares about her, which is why heโ€™s now taking every opportunity to make up for lost time. He has become something of a regular at Koreโ€™s flower shop, either stopping by to pick up some botanic arrangements for his clients, or just to chat. Itโ€™s actually been somewhat easier than expected, although he probably should feel a teensy bit guilty taking advantage of her lost memories to further his own agenda, but what she doesnโ€™t know canโ€™t hurt her, right? Well, Shango seems as if heโ€™s quite content with not doing either; which, you know, is pretty understandable, given the circumstances. He does recall trying to forcibly overthrow the Yoruban pantheon back in the day. Kind of a dick move, now that he thinks about it, but whatโ€™s done is done, and as King of the Gods, he had a duty to spread their influence all over the world.
