Humble, a master who washes the feet of his attendant. Modest, not hungering for power or fame or wealth. Pious, unflinching in his words and works in service of the Lord. In his lifetime he was known for exceptional mercy, advocating for clemency on behalf of heretics sentenced to death and preaching repentance even to demons and the devil. Despite his past career as a cataphract and a member of the imperial bodyguard, Martin has long since laid down arms, and renounced all war and killing. Even if it were to defend his most beloved companions, he would never raise a finger against one of the Almighty’s children, however far astray they may be. Slow to anger, quick to forgive; his demeanour is seemingly always one of tranquil contentment, or even bliss. Demons in various forms, even the devil — all manner of diabolical creatures have tried their wicked arts on him to no avail. Mere magecraft is of no concern. Riding: C. Despite being most commonly depicted on horseback, Martin only ever served a few short years in the Roman cavalry, and was fortunate enough to never fight a battle during that stint. It has been a while, so he’s gotten a little rusty. Divinity: C. Venerated both in antiquity and the modern day, particularly in France, and numbered among the most famous saints of the Western church, it is no surprise that Martin possesses some degree of Divinity. The man himself is however vehemently against the very thought of such heresy. Personal Skills: Quis Contra Nos: B. Martin was never actually martyred. He did come very close several times, though, and his unwavering conviction in the face of mortal danger is no lesser than those who were ultimately called to Heaven. This mental fortitude makes psychological attacks and tests of his conviction a breeze, and withstanding intense pain an easy task. Mind-affecting attacks of any kind are ineffective. Fratribus Meis Minimis: A. It was an act of most Christian charity which led the future bishop to salvation, one winter at the gate of Amiens. Whenever and wherever it is possible for him to render assistance to anyone in need, Martin will do so. Be they sinner or saint alike, and regardless of his own circumstances, he will never hesitate to put his neck on the line to provide for the least in society. Through a sort of ‘intuition’ which he calls God-given wisdom, Martin always knows the needs of everyone around him, and the best way to go about helping them. This includes those who are hostile against him, and those who he has yet to meet; even a Servant using Presence Concealment of Rank B or below would be detected. Pugnare Mihi Non Licet: A. Martin declared himself no longer a soldier of Caesar but of Christ, right in front of the emperor himself. To support his declaration, he was willing to stand at the front of the whole army with neither sword nor shield. There is nothing different about this war. He may protect the weak and tend to the suffering, at the vanguard or in the rear, but nevermore will he take up arms. He will participate in combat should the circumstances compel him to, yet even if his own life were at stake, he will never aim to kill. It would take a Command Spell with a simple and specific order to overcome this. In battle, he will always head for the front lines, and draw the attention of opponents in the process. Effects: The remainder of the military cloak with which the young cavalryman clothed a beggar at Amiens at the expense of his own modesty. Although there was only one beneficiary in the original legend, this continuously-active Noble Phantasm can be divided into seven parts and shared with up to six targets, with one part for Martin himself. When wearing a part of the cloak, any harm which comes to the wearers will be redirected to Martin. The wearers’ wellbeing is restored gradually, which also has a calming effect. For each additional wearer under his protection, his endurance doubles, offering him exponentially higher defensive capabilities in exchange for bearing the burdens of the vulnerable. Only the wearer can remove their own part of the cloak, which disappears and is restored to Martin’s cloak upon doing so. Name: Quoniam Tu Mecum Es: I Shall Fear No Evil Rank: B Type: Anti-Unit Appearance: N/A Effects: A Noble Phantasm representing Martin’s propensity to defy death. When he was confronted with pagan assassins and hostile hosts, the Lord repelled their blades and brought a peaceful resolution to the futile fighting. So long as Martin holds true to his beliefs and keeps the faith, no harm will come to him. Any one who intends to hurt him will fail, their attacks either doing no damage or missing entirely. This supernatural protection does not extend to those around him, however, not even his own mount. Damage inflicted upon him through his cloak is not affected by this either. Name: Loricatos Quos Cataphractos Vocant: The Young Soldier’s Ironclad Stallion Rank: B Type: Anti-Unit Appearance: A large pony, 14 hands tall. Its pure white coat is concealed by an all-encompassing set of iron scale armour, which covers it from head to tail. Comes with reins and a four-horned saddle, but no stirrups. Effects: Martin’s steed throughout his career in the legions, and the one he rode when he divided his cloak. One of the most iconic parts of his saintly depiction, a symbol of charity and the moral duties of a soldier; when ridden, it doubles his strength, agility, and mana. It can be used to charge at and run over opponents. This Noble Phantasm can be destroyed by sufficient firepower, rendering it unusable for a few hours, but its endurance is equivalent to Rank A thanks to its thick and heavy armour. As in life, it can feed off mundane grass and hay alone in place of receiving mana from its rider. When ridden, it will always protect its rider from harm to the best of its ability unless explicitly commanded otherwise, up to and including intercepting attacks with its body. It can also completely nullify a single attack or short series of attacks even if it would normally be impossible for it to do so, such as one from a Conceptual Weapon, at the cost of being permanently put out of action for the remainder of the War. Name: Ydola Vana Ruunt: Destroy the False and Heathen Rank: C Type: Anti-Unit Appearance: Is it a hammer or an axe? Personally leaning towards the former. Effects: Legend has it that Martin used this to smash pagan statues and temples. He personally doesn’t recall using this particular tool, whatever it may be, but it’s here anyway. When used to strike a magical object, it can render the object’s magical abilities unusable for a period of time depending on the strength of the object’s magic. A low-quality Mystic Code would be destroyed completely, whereas a B-ranked Noble Phantasm would only be disabled for a few seconds at most, and a C-ranked one for no more than a minute. Anything stronger would be completely unaffected, and Noble Phantasms which are not objects (such as abilities and techniques) will also function normally. If the targeted object’s wielder has sufficiently high Luck, this effect may fail. Also usable as a normal hammer/axe. Alignment: Lawful Good
