I cannot say that I know anyone who seems to struggle more with the balance between the utilitarian and his innate sense of duty. Dr. Reagan is in the fullest sense of the phrase a “Good man” a relative rarity in our current day and age but his daily struggle with the ideas of right and wrong and how his actions pertain to them is evident in his reasoning. It is as though he has taken upon the world’s various philosophies and moral codes; trying to fuse them into a single effective practical model for decisions about right and wrong. Thankfully this seems to appear only in instances where a moral decision would be substantive. Though I find it curious that he claims to be unwilling to lie yet he is fully willing to simply remain silent when asked particular direct questions about things that he might be forced to outright lie about for a variety of reasons. Though thankfully he is willing to talk around them or explain that there is more to the question and he has to be careful what he says or he risks a falsehood even one by omission. When pressed on the matter he agrees that to maintain a semblance of functionality he has to accept that there are certain omissions he may make due to lack of personal knowledge but he seems content that in this world there is a certain amount of ‘Buyer be warned’ that is implied when one asks another’s opinion. Dr. Reagan’s personality is warm, compassionate, and genuine. To my knowledge he doesn’t swear and he is easy to speak to as though there were something about him you naturally trust. Perhaps it is that Dr. Reagan is as genuine a person as I have encountered. He freely says that decision making can become difficult for him in instances of moral ambiguity but he is confident that with increasing life experience and reasoning in his chosen field of study he will eventually be able to overcome merely all moral dilemmas. In all other than a certain underlying anxiety when it comes to particular dilemmas Dr. Reagan appears to be well adjusted and presents with nothing more than perhaps a subclinical diagnosis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder. (Dr. Harvey Morgan’s Personal Files in regards to interviews with a professional referral for one Dr. Jacob Harding Reagan’s apparent alternate personality “St. Uriel”, observations as follows:) Please note that the individual I am now referring to appears to be a separate personality that Dr. Reagan is manifesting. To my knowledge it is not a dominant personality except in times of extreme stress but Dr. Reagan appears to be capable of communicating with and giving the personality control. In both Dr. Reagan and St. Uriel’s, who allows others to simply refer to him as Uriel, words Uriel is in fact a possessing entity. Specifically an Archangel of the Judeo-Christian traditions. Uriel appears to be a stoic, firm, confident, yet imposing personality. The shift to this personality is noticeable in both posture and facial expressions. While I hesitate to refer to Uriel as abrasive he is blunt, to the point, and self assured in his assertions not only about himself but also the world. When pressed Uriel seems to be able to quote any passage of the bible reference by chapter and verse as well as quoting sections based on a general description of the section I’m referring to. He also appears to have specific and flawless knowledge of other Holy books from the tradition including the Islamic tradition. He also claims to have personally known a variety of Prophets, Saints, and as he refers to him “The Son”. This personality unlike Dr. Reagan is fully confident in all his decision making and seems to be of the opinion that any action he could take is morally correct as he is bound by “higher laws” which would make it impossible to act immorally. At this time I should note Dr. Reagan has confidentially informed me that he may have killed someone while the Uriel personality was in control. At this time Uriel appears to be non violent but he assures me that when, not if, violence is necessary on his part it is always justified. At this time my suspicion is that Uriel is a part of Dr. Reagan’s personality which has split from the main whole and fulfills a sort of ‘Guardian’ role and I suspect were Dr. Reagan presented with a sufficiently difficult moral dilemma this personality would step in. This sort of personality seems to indicate a diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder characterized by the maintenance of two distinct personalities.
Uniform/costume:
While it is rare for Uriel to assume his celestial form as pictured above it is not uncommon for Dr. Jacob Reagan to take on aspects of Uriel’s appearance typically his wings, sword, and occasionally his armor or halo. It's most common though for him to manifest Uriel’s ‘radiance’.
Origin Info/Details:
Dr. Jacob Reagan was and remains a prominent scholar of Ethics and Law having initially been trained as a Criminal Law lawyer, however his unique proclivity towards the truth ruined a promising career early on as it manifested within the first five years of his job. Born in Lost Haven Dr. Reagan attended the University of Maryland for an undergraduate degree in ethical philosophy and then the University of Maine’s college of Law before passing the Bar. On the heels of this new step in his life Jacob Reagan was scouted by a prominent private law office located in Lost Haven. Naturally the young newly minted lawyer accepted the position but he soon was forced to come face to face with the reality of what the group did. Much to his horror the group defended criminals. Not just the sort of off the street criminals most defense attorneys took on but the truly nasty ones. Serial killers, white collar criminals, and of course even more horrifying. Super criminals. The whole Law firm, Eliot & Mulch, drew their biggest income from representing super criminals on the stand and they were darn good at it. After several years of tamping down on his building feelings about the work the firm did he finally decided he could no longer in good conscience do what he was doing. After a standoff with the senior partners they finally let him go after signing dozens of non standard confidentiality agreements. To this day Dr. Reagan still refuses to talk about the work he did for the firm and what they made him agree to. After his time with Eliot & Mulch, Mr. Jacob Reagan returned to school. Completing a study in ethics, philosophy, argumentation, rhetoric, and law Dr. Jacob Reagan graduated from the University of Maine before moving to a teaching position in Lost Haven. Quietly becoming a non descript professor with an unusual bank account and a strange past. With the start of the new year Dr. Reagan was forced to come to terms with the world he lives in. With the crisis after crisis that plagued Lost Haven and the planet as a whole he became increasingly concerned for the well being of his students and those around him. In the end though there was little he could do but watch with growing frustration and helplessness bound by his own rules and his own past Dr. Reagan continued to watch but the time was coming. Visions from the future: Dr. Jason Reagan emerged from his kidnapping at the hands of a strange cult. Changed. In actuality he was a man playing host to a member of the highest Choir of Angels. Bound within the Ethics and Law professor was an Archangel straight from the side of the Lord of Hosts. A being of pure light and fire sent before its time. A being of incredible cosmic power and righteous authority. How it was summoned and placed within Dr. Reagan remains to be seen but one thing is for certain, Uriel now rides within Jason’s body granting him strange powers.
Season 2 Summary: Dr. Reagan was recently kidnapped by the Children of Cain and underwent a possession by the Archangel Uriel. What he will do now with his powers remains to be seen... Hero Type: Super Natural (Angelic Possession) Power Level: B. City (Current) Powers:
Angelic Strength- In the same way that Samson was granted physical might so too is Dr. Reagan. It’s only a fraction of the true power of Uriel who is capable of lifting well in excess of the 100 ton mark. but it's enough to crumple the front of a speeding bus or lift a garbage truck. Radiance of the Hosts- Much to most peoples annoyance when Dr. Reagan is channeling the power of Uriel he is exceedingly difficult to look at and it's impossible to describe his features. For the regular humans it's as though Dr. Reagan’s features are simply indefinable besides angelic and bright. This is a fraction of Uriel’s true radiance which when provoked can burn the eyes from mortals' heads and sear their flesh. Though for now Dr. Reagan is incapable of such things. This also means that much of the time there is little need for a mask. Wings of the Archangel- MovementAngels are messengers and warriors of the Lord of Hosts and Uriel is no different. Dr. Reagan benefits from an increased speed as a result of these wings. More than that though at their fullest potential Uriel’s wings provide the ability to fly between stars, pass into different realms, and ascend to the throne of the Lord of Hosts. CombatFor now Dr. Reagan appears totally incapable of manifesting Uriel’s wings. Physically the wings are nearly indestructible; shrugging off projectiles, energy weapons, radiation, and all manner of melee weapons. Though the weapons of the Celestial and Infernal realms can degrade them. In addition they are incredibly strong and their feathers are impossibly sharp allowing Uriel to cut through most mortal substances with minimal to moderate effort. Angelic Constitution Uriel in his celestial form will never fatigue. He was set to Guard the entrance to Eden and never once flagged in his duty. Dr. Reagan however benefits from only a fraction of this able to perform at peak human efficiency but no more. Each exertion leaves him fatigued and using Uriel’s powers drain him with most of Uriel’s celestial might still bound behind seals. Dr. Reagan does however benefit from an increased healing rate and mildly more capacity to take a beating, about double that of a normal human and his cells will replicate perfectly in the process. Smite Uriel is a manifestation of the Lord of Host’s judgement on the world and is said to fight as viciously as any demon. Part of this is the ability to form energy projectiles that appear similar to golden fire and expel waves of celestial energy. Dr. Reagan is currently unable to do more than singe someone he is touching. Repentance: As well as being the Guardian of Eden, Uriel is the Archangel of Repentance and can compel mortals around him to contemplate their transgressions rendering them nearly catatonic with grief for their actions. Though unless they accept their actions and beg forgiveness any attempt to harm them in this state returns them to normal. Those with protection from psychic or mind altering effects find it disconcerting to but are far more capable of resisting this power. Those with no regrets of any kind are immune to it though Uriel is instantly aware of an Unrepentant in his presence. Currently, Dr. Reagan is only capable of making a singular individual feel this and he must focus his attention on them. Often through questioning them about the morality of their actions or past acts. The Angel of Fire- Uriel wields the Sword that guards the gate of Eden created by the Lord of Hosts when man fell from his graces. Or so the story goes. Regardless, Uriel's sword is a brilliant blade of pure white hot fire that can cut through nearly all mortal substances and most supernatural substances when wielded in its fullest strength. As of now Dr. Reagan cannot draw the blade and it's doubtful it will be nearly as powerful if or when he can. Consequently Dr. Reagan and Uriel are both totally immune to the effects of normal fire and some magical fire. Uriel is immune to almost all magical fire. Guardian of the Pit- Uriel holds the key to Tartarus and is capable of opening the Gates of Hell itself to descend into it. To what end remains pure speculation but with his wings and in his celestial form he could in theory recover a soul from Hell or usher a hoard of demons into the mortal realm. Dr. Reagan has no idea that Uriel can do this and he most certainly couldn’t even begin to manifest the key to the Pit even if he knew.
Attributes:
Height: 5’ 10” Weight: 170 lbs Strength: Variable, Current: 10 tons Mobility: Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort: Variable, Current: Normal Human. Agility: Variable, Currently Dr. Reagan is capable of flight at approaching the speed of sound (if he can manifest his wings). On foot and in the water he is capable of speeds just beyond that of a pinnacle human. Intelligence: Pinnacle human Fighting Skill: Untrained (Dr. Reagan), Master Swordsmanship and Enochian Martial Arts (Uriel) Resources: Average (Tenured Professor)
Weaknesses:
Dark Exorcism- A perverted version of the Catholic exorcism Rite or some other similar Rite might be able to expel Uriel from Dr. Reagan’s body. Infernal Weapons/Magic- The Weapons forged in the depths of the Pit are capable of harming the Archangel. Celestial Weapons/magic- The Weapons of the Hosts are capable of harming the Archangel The High Laws- Uriel is bound by certain Celestial Laws which prevent him from engaging in certain actions (murder, theft, subverting free will of mortals, etc.). While in theory he could disregard them the result would be catastrophic. Though Dr. Reagan’s actions provide a minor loophole in that his access to Uriel’s power is not totally willing on Uriel’s part. The Seals- Much of Uriel’s power is trapped within his host and as a result Dr. Reagan only has limited access to the Archangel’s power. As the Seals erode however the two will become increasingly merged. How this will affect then is still to be determined. Mortal Weapons- Dr. Reagan is still very much mortal and despite an increased healthing factor being shot, stabbed, or blown apart would most certainly kill him until he learns to use Uriel’s powers more effectively.
Supporting Characters:
Dr. Harvey Morgan (Friend)- One of the only people who know about Jason’s condition Dr. Morgan was the first person to perform a psychological evaluation of Jason after which he continued to offer his support and services. Ashley Reagan (Sister)- A talented electrical and mechanical engineer who works for an industrial robotics company based out of Lost Haven. She is currently unaware of her brother’s condition Father Ezra Morose (Friend?)- Father Morose claims to be a member of an order within the Vatican that handles what they refer to as “Angelic Confluence”. At this time he is aware of Dr. Reagan’s condition and has offered to help.
Do you know how to post pictures on RPG boards?: Yes.
