The first thing one is likely to know about Scáthach is her reputation. She's well-known for her combat abilities, and accordingly has a very high estimation of her prowess, often bragging about especially difficult enemies she's defeated or showing off her numerous scars. She also has a tendency to be quite bloodthirsty, actively seeks out combat missions, and often hangs around the Haynek Institute's sparring rooms. Her eagerness to fight has gotten her in trouble in the past, especially when she first joined the Institute - she would often pick fights with her fellow Operators. Therapy sessions have allowed Scáthach to channel that into more constructive territory, and she's now well-known as the person to go to if you need help learning how to fight. Her greatest expertise is in hand-to-hand combat, as her favored weapons are a set of clawed brass knuckles, but she's picked up a lot of skills over the years. Unfortunately, many people (especially newer recruits) find her intimidating, so she doesn't get as many trainees as she'd like.

Behind the reputation as a bloodthirsty berserker, however, Scáthach is quite affable, even charming, in her way. She's very casual and friendly with everyone, even those who react to her friendly wave and [color=0054a6]"Good morning!"[/color] by leaving their coffee in the lounge and going to hide in the bathroom across the hall until she leaves. She's very laid-back, and takes most things in stride, confident in her ability to overcome whatever obstacles present themselves. There are three times when this attitude changes.

1. When she gets in a fight. Scáthach described the feeling as [color=0054a6]"A fierce, overwhelming joy,"[/color] and indeed is rarely seen without a smile on her face while fighting. She's also been known to break into laughter during a fight, which has been known to cause enemies to flee in terror at least once.
2. When someone attempts to pry into her personal life, especially if they've done it more than once, or did it without asking. (Close friends and her therapist are notable exceptions to this.)
3. When someone touches her without her consent. (Similar to the above, close friends and loved ones are exceptions, to a degree.)

The last two both elicit the same reaction; cold, quiet anger, and a warning - [color=0054a6]"Don't. Do that. Again."[/color] This combined with her bloodlust mean Scáthach doesn't have many friends, but she's not especially concerned with it. She sees it as a matter of inevitability that someone as cool, competent, and overall awesome as her will make more friends. All she has to do is be herself.

Details about Scáthach's past are hard to come by, in large part because she rarely volunteers them, and in fact goes to great lengths to keep her background as much under wraps as she can. Attempts to discover more about her are invariably found out, and the perpetrators are given a frigid command to stop looking, or else. When this was brought up by her assigned therapist, she merely shrugged and said, [color=0054a6]"People know not to ask about that stuff. If I wanna keep it hidden, that's my business. Other people don't get to pry into my personal life like that. Boundaries, y'know?"[/color]

Despite her enjoyment of her reputation and the acknowledgement of her skills in combat, Scáthach has admitted that she occasionally wishes it were easier for her to talk to people. It's a little disheartening sometimes to walk into a room and see half the occupants huddle closer together, but Scáthach tries not to let it get to her much - [color=0054a6]"As long as I'm on their side, they have nothing to worry about! And it's not like I'm gonna defect or something. I like it here. I have friends, I get to fight without holding back, and I get to do good work. Important work."[/color]

Findings from some of Scáthach's therapy sessions imply that part of the reason she keeps her past a secret is due to past trauma. When asked about the start of her career as an Operator, she briefly froze up, and said with a pained smile, [color=0054a6]"I don't like to talk about it."[/color] Further investigation is thoroughly discouraged, as any prying could cause Scáthach to leave the Institute in search of employment elsewhere.
