Since she’s on the road every day, she sticks with a trusty pair of yukata, storing the one she’s not wearing in a furoshiki of patterned cloth she carries with her. For shoes she prefers zori, and she has some simple wooden hair accessories for the few formal occasions that might arise. These are usually reserved for days when something important is happening, like a gym battle or festival, but on the day-to-day Sumi sticks with a wooden barrette etched with flowers to complement her bunned hair. Otherwise, Sumi’s outfits are relatively simple—that is, as simple as a floral yukata set can be.
Background:
Raised in the town of flowers where colors bloomed year-round and imparted the air with an undispellable perfume, Sumi was taught to watch and appreciate rather than pick or trample. Delicacy was as much a must with raising grass-types as it was with raising certain types of flora, and just as different levels of care are required for different species of bloom, differing touches were required for different Pokemon, each of whom would be unique and individual in themselves. Such nuances surrounded Sumi, engraving themselves into her understanding and perception of the world, and though some might call her upbringing in the local tea house rigid or harsh, Sumi never saw it as such. Just as there were moments that had driven her to tears, there were also moments of extreme tenderness, of raw admiration and heartfelt appreciation, and it was these moments that stayed with Sumi as she left on her trainer journey at the turn of eighteen. Though she had a place in town waiting for her, the desire to find her own calling in life drove her from home, and her love for Pokemon only helped to fuel her want to explore. Her journey so far has been neither long nor tough, but that’s because she has yet to be very far from home. Heading down to Jubilife gave her a glimpse of city life, and Oreburgh’s gym wasn’t much of a challenge with zero badges and two Pokemon with type advantages. After her latest trip home, though, she’s off to Eterna City, after which she will only travel farther and farther from Floaroma. Stronger than her nervousness, though, is a sense of excitement because in a way, her journey has only begun.
Personality:
Sumi is a calm and gentle soul with an endless pool of love and respect for all things. Normally both the listening ear and the shoulder to cry on, she shows an extremely high amount of patience for most things, and she defaults to trying to take care of those around her. She lives by the high standards she sets for herself, which keep her on track, in her opinion, and she’s found a precarious balance between reasonable and unreasonable expectations for her team that’s working for the moment. Though she enjoys company, she struggles with balancing her judgements since she tends to judge others by her own standards. Her awareness of this, however, helps her keep herself on track for improvement, and aside from a competitive streak and a temper that doesn’t show itself too much, she’s a pretty standard older sister-type friend—caring and almost overbearing, but well-meaning nonetheless.

Tamo

[sup]Turtwig ◼ ♂ ◼ Jolly | Responsible ◼ Shell Armor [/sup]
Small but mighty, Tamo is pretty happy with himself and his surroundings. With a trainer and a pair of interesting teammates to keep him company on the road, he’s found that there’s rarely a dull moment, especially with all the sights to behold and experiences to be had. Sure he has a ways to go in terms of training, and sure he loses a few battles here and there, but he’s got a shell on his back and four feet to get back onto. One day he’ll get bigger, and he knows this—but he’s not waiting around for that day either. For now, though, life is good, and he sees no reason not to keep smiling.

Niru

[sup]Torkoal ◼ ♀ ◼ Bold | Stubborn ◼ Drought [/sup]
Niru is technically Sumi’s first Pokemon, but also technically not. This is because she was first Sumi’s grandma’s, but she’s been asked to accompany Sumi because life as a sun-caller and fire-stoker was apparently too peaceful for an old turtle. If she had it her way, she’d have never left the quiet town of flowers and spring breezes, but she hadn’t had it her way. So, on the road and none too happy about it, she trudges along, heeding the little girl she watched grow up because at least the girl can cook. If there was anything worse than being made to walk around all day, it was being made to walk around on an empty stomach, and Niru will have absolutely none of that. Giving up freedom for security isn’t so bad when it boils down to trading relaxation for food, and Niru sometimes goes the extra mile to meet Sumi halfway because hey, she remembers the kid’s first steps and words, and that makes her something like responsible for the kid. Add that to the half-decent food served at meals and it’s almost enough to make an old turtle feel young again, but Niru’s keeping that part to herself. Sumi calls it being a bit rough around the edges; Kane calls it existing. So they have somewhat of a temper—a ruckus never hurt anyone, however unintentional it might be. As for bumping into things, well, Kane bumps into stuff. Smashing or breaking things is unintentional, and hurting teammates is unfortunate, but they’re a disk of floating steel, so collisions are inevitable. As for being shiny, Kane’s aware that they can seem shiny, but they are here to tell you that they are definitely not as shiny as they seem. The dust covering them? That’s there to stay, and any polishing attempts will earn you a definite smack from a disk of steel, so polish at your own risk.
