[/sub]
Recent History
The Westerlands has largely opted for stability and offering reparations for those who they have wronged in the past, though this did not come easily. The first Lord Paramount of the Westerlands following the reunification, Martyn Lannister, held a heavy bearing. Every Great House in the realm despised his family and rightfully so, but Martyn was asked to do as his father would despite the challenges and hurdles in his path. This was a hard task given Martyn himself was barely a man of five-and-ten when he inherited Casterly Rock and the Westerlands. A decent knight but a sub-par steward, Martyn’s reign was fending off pressure from all sides. Consistently stressed Martyn turned early to the drink and in copious amounts. He survived various assassination attempts on his life and costly arguments with houses who saw him as less than human due to Cersei and Tywin’s deeds before him. An outbreak of the Grey Plague cost him greatly but with the poise of his wife, Mylana Serrett, he survived far longer than most expected him to. He died supposedly from stress in 329 AC but some say he fell off a balcony in a drunken stupor. Lord Addam, Martyn's first-born, succeeded his father in 329 AC. By this time he had come to be a fully realized young man. At four-and-twenty he was better equipped than his father had been and with his mother’s guidance Addam had composed himself as a rather fair-minded statesman and steward. While he was unimpressive in swordplay and archery, it is said Addam held a tongue sharper than the finest valyrian steel. In many ways he reflected much of Tywin but without the intent to injure or incite. For a shambling house still trying to regain its posture he was the right lord to arrive to rule at the right time. Addam sought to build bridges, though he was not so foolish to make alliances out of blind trust. His family had caused the realm great harm that would not cease in one generation. Whether the other houses liked it or not, he was reasonable but firm, charismatic and compelling; many other lords did not trust him merely because of his bloodline. But dynastic prejudices aside, they would have to work with him. The Westerlands still controlled the gold road. Addam knew this well, he did marry Lady Cerelle of House Payne for a reason. In his time as Lord Paramount he may not have reached his goal of returning the Westerlands to some degree of normalcy, but he was effective to some degree. Through marriages to Houses Mallister, Martell, and Hightower he succeeded in building a safety net should the realm descend into madness. The days of his stammering anxiety-riddled father were gone and despite having loud-mouthed brothers who care more about stirring trouble there would be no question that when a sudden illness took him in 359 AC that to the people of the Westerlands he would be missed. It is now five years later and Addam's heir, Lord Tywald, leads the Westerlands. Something is brewing. The first born of four children, Tywald immediately came into his own knowing what would be eventually his and where he stood amongst the other would-be lords of the greater realm. Westeros was not kind to Tywald due to his family’s actions during the War of Five Kings, but with his father’s masterful sense of diplomacy and stewardship things had begun to incite an era of stability and prosperity. As a boy he squired under Ser Tygett Crakehall, the would-be heir of Lord Jonothor Crakehall. It was here that Tywald’s innate skill with the sword and spear became known through tournaments and other engagements until Tywald was recognized as a knight. Not long afterward Tywald would join Tygett and others in the defense of the greater realm when they left Lannisport for Sunspear in their part of the War for the Stepstones. A fellow knight and Tywald’s closest friend, Ser Norwin Kenning, would return to the Westerlands in a box. He would not be the only one. Of these engagements in the Stepstones Tywald would sharpen his skills as much as it would darken his spirit. This is not to say in his youth that Tywald was particularly nice. He was not his father. Whereas Lord Paramount Addam Lannister was affable, convincing, and generally charming it appears that Tywald had never inherited such traits. Tywald is a man of action and prefers his actions speak louder than his words, though he knows how the game works. Having no ability to speak, convince, and charm is necessary; especially when he has to deal with House Lannister’s dynastic stain garnered by Tywin and Cersei Lannister. His father had spent his entire life making tactical connections with House Mallister, House Hightower, and House Martell while repairing House Lannister’s relationship with the faith. Tywald does not seek to undo that. Those who know Tywald well enough know that he sticks to his word even if his temperament works against his intentions at times. However, if he perceives you as dishonest, you better be prepared for war.
Attributes & Talents
Lord Paramount Tywald is a swift and skilled combatant with either sword or spear, has firsthand fought in the War for the Stepstones, and is said to be one of the finest (albeit not the greatest) swordsmen in the realm. It can also be said that he is a patient and shrewd tactician, he has learned naval and rough terrain strategies adeptly and due to his young age his mind is only going to get sharper as times carries on.
Immediate Family
The first-born child of Addam Lannister and Cerelle Payne, Lord Tywald is the current patriarch of the Lannister dynasty. His relationships with his children and kinsman have been characterized as amicable, though there are suggestions that he is not the kindest when they step out of line.
