I've been trying to run a game based around modern-era fighter aircraft on the Guild for ages, or even just to play in one. There have been numerous attempts over the years, though they're usually pretty few and far between, and despite a lot of them being damn good or having a lot of potential, they always just die out. And the same for most group RP's I've run the last couple of years in general too. But I'm going to give this a try, dammit, because I want my fighter-jet based game. I'm not thinking of something strictly realistic and overly gritty in detail. I'm aiming more for an Ace Combat/Area 88/HAWX feel than directly and accurately simulating modern day aerial warfare. There will be attention to which planes you fly and what weapons they can carry, and how many of them (no 100+ missiles), and I'm looking to keep some element of that at least mostly realistic. But I won't be worrying about the gritty specifics of every other aspect, like what electronic systems your plane has, etc etc etc. I also want to incorporate some larger-than-life sci-fi elements, like Ace Combat has. Things like globe-spanning conspiracies, hi-tech superweapons, advanced tech alongside modern day things. That kind of stuff to make it a bit more interesting than just another modern-day thriller. I haven't decided which level it's going in yet - although it definitely won't be free, because ew - but will likely be casual or Advanced, just so there's enough room to actually get some decent story and plot into a post. I generally run games with a good element of adventure and plot-based story to them, with a good sense of humour being an absolutely requirement, alongside being able to suspend your sense of disbelief and just throw yourself into enjoying things. I know a good bit about modern-day aircraft. I don't claim to be any kind of expert, but I know what's what, and I hope I can use that knowledge to help others if they're not sure. The main jist would be sort of a Rogue Squadron style set up; a unit of specialists and their aircraft, which would be picked by the players, carrying out missions handed out by some group, against a specific enemy, building toward an eventual confrontation with each mission. I'm thinking the setting may have some post-apocalyptic elements, but not sure yet; if it does, it won't be total 'Mad Max'. At the moment I'm just spitballing ideas, but I don't want to dedicate myself to writing out a complete setting and posting up all the details if there's going to be no interest. Hoping for about three to six players including myself, and hoping for ones that will actually stick with it rather than dropping out after two posts as well. If worst comes to worst, I'll run it as a 1x1, if there's no further interest.
