Been replaying Assassin's Creed Odyssey and I still can't believe that this game is simultaneously tedious and fun. It should be a paradox but it isn't.
As someone who loves Odyssey enough to call it my GOTY of 2018, it was still the game that broke me out of the 'explore everything in an area before doing the main quest' thing that is my open world curse because it's just so easy to arrive in an area then fall into the rhythm of 'oh what's that '?' over there and combined with all the islands available it can really get away from you. Exploring Odyssey is super fun but if I had a huge complaint it would be how the exploration and the story don't really form a coherent picture - especially if you take out camps and stuff beforehand because almost every quest will then take you back to those camps anyway. Also conquest battles, while neat, seem to work backwards (why is it easier to defend a nation that you've just worked on taking out its defenses in the first place, moreover why would they hire the person who just took out their supplies and generals and money?) but fortunately the game shits loot and XP at you so they're like entirely optional. Still, the game has a lot of good going in it and with the way Assassin's Creed works I can only hope that Valhalla improves on the things Odyssey introduced because fuck would that be cool. Also if anyone prefers Alexios to Kassandra what's it like being wrong.
