Aristocracy of Noxiria: Info
General Info:
Name: Aristocracy of Noxiria Type: Council-ruled Aristocracy Region: Central Western heartlands of the main continent Description: Noxiria is a mysterious land, covered in deep, black forests and prone to thick fog and mist all year around. It boasts a large lake in its very center, wherein a lone, medium-sized island rests. It's on this island that the vampires decided to build their capitol, Walpurgis, and where the Council of the Great Houses convene and conduct their business. An extremely long, and ominous-looking, bridge has been bult from the mainland out over the lake and to the island, connecting the two, and thus allowing travel by foot, mount or carriage to and from the city on the water. As you may expect from the above, Noxiria is the country of vampires, home to multiple clans and houses of the bloodsuckers. Their goverment consists of a council, made up by the heads of the nine strongest, most influential and wealthiest of the various Vampire Houses in the nation. The single most powerful house is appointed the position of 'First HOuse', and acts as the de facto governor, with veto-rights and other priveleges during votes and affairs of state. Naturally, all the other houses covet this position as well, so undermining and trying to prove the First House's ineptitude is commonplace. Those not belonging to the nine Great Houses are simply refered to as Lesser Houses. These clans and families make up the vaast majority of the nation's vampire-population and can be found in all their settlements and doing all manner work, just like any other race. The architecture of towns and buildings are distinctly gothic in design, and the roads are well-paved with even-bricked tiles. Though, owing to the race's natural aversion to sunlight, you'd think most places were ghost towns during the day, only coming into motion and bustling once the sun has set. All races are warmly welcome to travel to and from Noxiria, however to become a citizen, one must allow themselves to become a vampire and, by extension, join one of the many houses. Non-vampires are not allowed to own property or land in the nation. While on paper everything seems fine and dandy, Noxiria is constantly drenched in internal intrigue and political strife, due to no small part of the very nature of its people. The proud, refined and etiquette-oriented vampires are all also incredibly arrogant, scheming and vain, and amuses themselves with the games of nobiity, which is to say subterfuge, manipulation and equally shady things. This is true for even the Lesser Houses, and the mind-games and treachery can be found and enjoyed at any social level... Though each House has its own banner and mark, the flag of the unified nation is a deep, midnight blue with a royal purple 'x' running through it and a silver crescent moon in the central top part. Backstory: Originally, Noxiria belonged to a bunch of other races, living in fiercely territorial communities. At some point, a vampire lord showed up, and managed to infiltrate one of these settlements, convincing them that he would grant them power and the ability to overthrow the others in the region. Blinded by such promises, and the natural charisma of this handsome stranger, they accepted... And subsequently were all turned into vampires. However, another vampire lord had been tailing the first one, and saw what he had done... And thought it was a right laugh, so he did the exact same thing, but to another group.... As you can probably guess, the pattern continued, with more vampires showing up and joining in the fun, and before long, all the natives had been replaced by vampires. The irony.
