Once, for my sister's birthday, my father got her a dog and didn't warn anyone. I used to enter my house from the side by going through the fence and entering through the door that led into the garage. So one day, I arrive home from school like any other day and I open up the gate in the fence to step into my, 100% safe, backyard. Then, I nearly shit myself when I see a pitbull charging at me at full speed. I'm not sure how I managed to reason this, but instead of running, I immediately shut the gate behind me in an effort to contain my aggressor. I was then assaulted by dirty paws and a wet tongue and lot of tail wagging. I called my father afterwards and he freaked out thinking I freaked out and had let the dog out, but I assured him I didn't. To be fair, he picked a good one. He was actually very well behaved (I believe he had been a rescue) and besides being super excited to see a new face, was never aggressive or dangerous or generally disrespectful to the objects in the house. Kalihi is still alive to this day, last I checked. He's now an old, tired family dog.
