He wears tees, hoodies, jeans, flannel shirts, and sneaks. Basically hand-me-downs from his cousins out of state or thrift store clothing his grandfather got for a steal a few years back. Thankfully, he hasn't outgrown his clothes too much. Sure, he'd love more Superhero Merch but he'd rather save his money so he'd be able to afford going out to eat with friends throughout the week, surprising them with a present that's something they've wanted for weeks, or buying groceries for him and his gramps. At school, Spike's created his own form of a uniform, even if it isn't necessary. It just makes his mornings easy having a couple of button up shirts to wear throughout the week. Plus, his papa likes to tell him to dress for success. While he doesn't have a suit, or some high fashion brand trousers, he does have a tie! A green tie. So, like a cartoon, he comes in with dark denim jeans (he has a couple to coordinate throughout the week, but they're all dark shades), low-top black canvas shoes that look like Converse (but aren't), his father's dress shirts, the tie his grandfather made him wear for a middle school dance, and his own touch, a flannel. Flannels are more 'professional' than hoodies, right? [*]Scars, Tattoos and/or Piercings: Long shiny scars on his right leg and ankle. Being dumb and young, he had made (unsafe) traps to protect the boys' clubhouse from unwanted trespassers. This led to him forgetting where he put all the traps and falling straight into a cluster of barbed wire. Fucked up his leg and tore up his ankle. They doted on their one child, providing for him as a receptionist (father) and a teacher (mother). The biggest support in their life was Paw-Paw Langley, who would become the most important person to Spike to this day for everything he's done for him and his father. Sadly, Spike can't remember much of his mother besides the pictures he sees, the stories that have been told to him, and the lingering feelings buried inside of him. If asked, he could dig down deep and say she loved hugs, Christmas, and his drawings, which she praised him for constantly. Since she had passed away when he was three, she's become a distant, distant dream and it's hard for Spike to say he knew his mother, because he was too young to know her. Her death was a turning point to Spike's relationship with his father because Spike began to blame her for his father's neglect. She had gone to an education conference, her first and only one, and caught a severe case of the flu, soon after succumbing to her sickness. After her funeral, where none of her family attended, a darkness fell over Calvin that Spike was too young to understand. Holly's family never agreed to her marriage with Calvin, a poor, cursed Langley that would never have anything to his name besides, maybe, his father's rundown mechanic shop. It was signing up for failure, but Holly believed in Calvin, who wanted to one day become a writer, having written thousands of manuscripts at work, but never actually publishing them. She loved Calvin and didn't care if she was giving up everything for him, and for that, Calvin blamed himself for her death. While Calvin fell into a deep, near-suicidal depression, failing to hold a job, keep it together, and be there to care for his son, Spike was learning to fend for himself and figure out ways to get his father to see him again, to love him like his father loved his mother. Calvin was gone, a ghost, and Spike did his best to remember his mother and adopt some of her mannerisms. He wanted to be a beacon of light, just like her. His solution was smiling widely, being lighthearted, and drawing for his father like he did for his mother. She was such an optimistic and hopeful person, she was exuberant and energetic, full of life, and to Spike, that was the solution to get his father back. At the same time, Paw-Paw Langley intervened and that snapped Calvin back to reality, causing him to want to make things right, raise Spike well, with love, and never make him feel alone again. After packing things up in their small house, they moved in with Paw-Paw, in his trailer, who provided for his son and grandson until Calvin was able to secure a night job as a janitor. Calvin spent as much time during the day with Spike as he could and the two of them became inseparable. The manuscripts that his father once cared so much about continued to collect dust because his main priority was Spike, and repaying his father for his kindness. Calvin was able to give Spike wisdom beyond his years in everything but the romance department. When it came to sex and love, that was all self taught, which makes sense because Calvin wasn't thinking about his son getting in romantic relationships, he was thinking about never abandoning him like he did after Holly died. Just when life was going right, and the Langley family felt at peace, nearing Spike's eighth grade graduation, Calvin got into an accident. A hit-and-run. He had bought his son a couple of comics from Page Turners, as a graduation gift, and as he was crossing the street to get to his car, a clear red light for drivers, he was hit. Hard. Spike never did go to his graduation. Rather than shutdown, he drew. A lot. Fortunately, he was able to become a class clown at Rosefell, which kept people from digging too deep into his life. His family was never important to anyone, aside for those that loved his grandfather's mechanic work. His old man is now retired, having given the business to his friend's son, knowing well enough Spike would never be a mechanic. Now, as a senior, Spike has made a promise to his old man to enjoy his last year at school, but also go to a weekly therapy session that they can barely afford. Spike doesn't think therapy does much for him, but his grandfather is taking a precaution to avoid repeating the past (having failed to put Calvin in therapy). Spike doesn't really see much for himself after he graduates. At most, he'll get a stable job, like a janitor or something, and take care of his grandfather until his old man's dying day. Other than that? Like his father, Spike doesn't believe in himself enough to make his art a profession. He's a Langley and karma seems to never be on their side. He'll be a fool for his friends, to make them laugh, be part of their happiness, but for him? Who knows. He'll take it day by day.
