At that moment, she immaculately conceived a son, whose name was Huitzilopochtli. Upon hearing that her mother was pregnant, her daughter Coyolxauhqui became enraged. She rallied her 400 brothers, the Centzonhuitz-nahua, to storm Snake Mountain and kill their mother.

However, one of the brothers decided to warn Coatlicue. Upon hearing of her impending murder, the earth goddess became understandably afraid. But Huitzilopochtli comforted her, telling her not to worry. At the moment Coyolxauhqui approached her mother, Huitzilopochtli was born, fully grown and armed. He sliced off his sister’s head, and threw her body off the mountain. As she fell, her body broke apart until it came to rest at the bottom of Snake Mountain.

Her new life, she had vowed, would be dedicated to her newfound abilities with snakes.

Throughout the centuries, Coatlicue worked as a snake charmer, then as a snake milker, and soon became one of the pioneers in the investigation of the properties of snake venom and their antidotes. As the scientific industry grew and advanced, so did Coatlicue’s knowledge in the subject, expanding beyond snakes and to other venomous animals. Eventually, she decided to get a “formal” education, and under the name Aleyda Montenegro managed to get doctorate degrees in Toxicology and Biochemistry. 

In present times, Dr. Montenegro is in charge of the Research and Development department of [s]Janus’[/s] Westin Rex’s Intitium Inc, with a separate team of dedicated scientists assisting her in the investigation of more uses for snake venom.
