Small animals have generally grown in size, very large animals have shrunk, and medium animals are trending toward average human height. Character height and weight are highly appropriate and I won't be too picky. Animals under 4 ft or taller than 8 ft often require special accommodations. Hands should have opposable thumbs, but may fewer or more than five fingers, may have claws, hooves, pads, webbing, or other features. Avian, reptilian, and amphibian females tend to have little to no breasts, but this is not a requirement. Heads should be animal in appearance unless they have human ancestry. Feet vary widely in appearance but have generally been becoming more human-like.

Many birds have lost the ability to truly fly but many can glide or hover. This is because their wings are devolving to become arms and hands, claws, or talons (rather than growing additional entirely new limbs). Please be reasonable when deciding your character's flight capacity.
Examples of a flight-capable individual. Hands/talons may or may not be visible due to unclipped feathers. Unclipped wings may restrict the type of clothing an avian can wear or the activities they may participate in. Mutations such as albino and melanistic variants are fairly common. Other examples include conjoined twins and individuals with extra or missing limbs.

Animals are expected to cover their private parts (usually crotch and buttox). Females are expected to cover their breasts if they have any. Fashion is highly variable due to the many kinds and sizes of animals. Many different sizes and cuts of clothing are available in-store, but often lack in quality compared to custom-tailored clothing. Tailor-made clothing is more common in this world, but is still considered a privilege for the wealthy.

Fur and skin colors should be their natural colors unless cosmetically modified through dyeing. Due to the costs of maintaining artificial color, most animals don't dye or only dye some parts of their body. Dyeing is used as an expression of individuality. Permanent tattoos are available for animals with skin or scales. Furred animals either have to shave if they want a permanent tattoo, or they can get temporary fur tattoos (fur will shed with time and the tattoo will disappear). Plastic surgery is also available but is very expensive. Many people use surgery to look like different species or to look more or less like a predator. The most common cosmetic surgery is breast implants.

Crossbreeding is possible between almost all intelligent animal species. However, the success rate lowers the more different the species are and may result in unusual appearance, strange mutations, or sterile offspring. Marrying and breeding with different species is generally frowned upon, especially when it comes to rare or endangered species (who are encouraged to keep the bloodline pure.)

Many animals still have heat cycles, while others are fertile all year long. Some animals still follow specific mating/courtship rituals. Mammals give live birth and breast-feed young. Most other kinds of animals still lay eggs and do not produce milk, unless they have significant mammalian ancestry. Egg laying and small animals tend to have small (2-6) litters rather than single children like humans do.

Smaller animals and animals that produce large litters tend to have slightly shorter lifespans and age more quickly. Advancements in modern medicine have allowed even the smallest and most prolific animals to live for at least 50 years.

Reasearch and history has proved that humans are the most intelligent species, but they are not without competition. Other great apes, elephants, horses, dogs, and cats are not far behind. Mammals are generally the most intelligent class of animals followed by avians, then reptiles and amphibians. Insects, arachnids, mollusks, crustaceans, and fish are considered non-intelligent animals. Cephalopods are believed to be very intelligent but are not well studied.

Animals speak many different human languages from around the world but English is most commonly spoken. Some animals may still communicate within their primitive languages (dogs barking or squirrels chattering for example). Many animals have accents or lisps, such as hissing.

Predators and larger animals tend to work in occupations that are labor-intensive (police and military force, firefighting, construction, loggers, movers). Smaller species usually work in professions that involve dexterity and precision work (manufacturing, plumbing, electrical). Omnivores often work in the food and hospitality industry. It is possible for any animal to be hired for just about any job, but they may face opposition.

At this point in time, no animals are truly cold-blooded, but there was a time when many were. Animals with cold-blooded ancestors tend to have low blood temperatures and are more susceptible to the cold, and often suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. They often wear special heated clothing in the winter and tend to enjoy sunbathing and tanning salons.

Most animals follow human-like sleep patterns. Animals with nocturnal ancestors tend to stay up late and sleep in (ie "night owl"). Some truly nocturnal species and lineages exist, however.

There are many types of religion, including typical human religions. You can make up religions as desired.

Just like humans, animals judge others around them and may have prejudice and stereotypes and irrational fears of others. For example, herbivores are often seen as weak and cute, carnivores are seen as strong and dangerous, foxes are sly, rabbits are promiscuous, black animals are evil, white animals are pure, but many stereotypes are wrong. Classism and sexism are fairly common, and wars are still raged over religion.

Many animals still have their natural instincts and common behaviors. For example, dogs wag their tail when happy, cats lick themselves to groom, and possums play dead when frightened. Most instincts are harmless. Many carnivore and predator species still have the lust for blood or meat. Some go to the Black Market to purchase illegal animal products for consumption. Many turn to prescribed medication to suppress their desires. Usually, if a carnivore eats enough protein from fish, eggs, insects, or plants, they should have no trouble controlling their desires. Carnivores who have tasted blood (other than their own) or those suffering from starvation, malnutrition, abuse, or mental illness are more likely to feel bloodlust or the urge to hunt as well as act on their desires. Statistically, reptiles are most likely to commit crimes, especially murder and devourings, followed by avians, amphibians, then mammals. This is believed to be because of their lower intelligence and less developed brains.

Many animals are considered naturally armed and dangerous. Police and military forces are trained to recognize and neutralize different types of natural attack and defense mechanisms. Animals who are naturally armed are encouraged to be especially compliant with the law to avoid misunderstandings.
