Background: Mike had always been a straight shooter for as long as he lived. Good grades. Check! Clean criminal record. Check! College. Check! Then Mike started his internship at Nova Consolidated for the HR department. 

Should have been easy like everything else. Work hard, rub shoulders with the right people, and ALWAYS BE MEMORABLE…. The vanishing sure fucked that up, well that's what Mike believed at first. In an attempt to get his internship back, he was.. hired. Then he was transferred to some kind of research department where he was paid to simply undergo various tests and be debriefed. It was possibly the easiest paycheck he ever earned. All he had to do was uphold the conditions of disclosure and comply. 

An entire two months went by before he noticed a change. The first sign was waking up to his vision focusing without the need of his glasses. Subtle, but reportable. The moment he shared his experience with the research department, a flurry of tests and questions came about. They retested his vision followed by his other senses. He seemed to only adapt to prolonged changes. His abilities had been reactive at first, but in time, he managed to make his own biological changes to himself. They were usually minor as he was afraid to injure himself. An eye color change here, increased hair growth there. There were times he felt he was doing character creation like in a video game. He used it to his advantage. No more gyms memberships or barber shops

As reports of others with powers surfaced, Mike was asked different questions in lieu. "Have you attempted…?" and then "Try to attempt…" And most times in did not work. The next question was always peculiar…
