Kirk who was about to continue on his way had his attention taken.
He's not dead Kirk thought confused looking down at the man, who
started talking about a "kirb" and orphans.

Just as kirk changed the
chamber in his revolver the man let out the warning "run" where he found
Bulk suddenly reaching out for him. Kirk pulled back, firing his gun, 
but bulk had made contact with his gun angling his shot into the snow
besides Bulk's leg. Kirk back stepped away.
