Is it truly an inescapable anvil or are those that are more than human an exception to this rule? Can this priceless gift, if it exists, be passed down? He searches the answers to those questions. Anything besides that he will leave to the whims of the Arcana.
Personality: A free spirited man that lives day by day. He does as he pleases and follow his impulses at every turn, after all why bother with rules and such? everything is pre-destined anyway, so he can't be held accountable for his actions, or so he thinks. While it is indeed true that Giovanni lives a care-free life with a lackdaisical approach, the benefits of living as a wandering gypsy, constantly reading and dealing the Fate of everybody he crosses path with means that even someone like him will accrue a high level of experience in his magecraft. The motive of theses travels? To find someone that can prove his predictions wrong. To this day, no one have been able to escape their Fate, be it a happy one or one full of tribulations. He does this as a way to be free of his own. Surely, if even one of his divinations are wrong, then even he, that was chosen as the recipient of his families collected history (grudges), the highests of honors possible to one of his position, on a spin of the roulette, can be ridden of that weight. Yes, everything is pre-destined indeed, everyone, a slave to their Fate. Escaping his obligations, always on the run, behind his facade, just a man running from his responsibilities. Nothing he had done was his fault, it was just what the cards had in store for him

Biography: Giovanni Scalognatto path in life should have been an average one. Born in one of the many branch families of the Fortuna's, an old and noble heritage said to have been created in the 14th century Italy, his destiny was already set in stone. He would have studied his family own style of magecraft, one derivem from the one in the main branch, found a good enough woman to marry and have kids to pass down their misteries. It suited his own way of life, but it seems Fate had other plans in store for him. To understand his predicament, the way the Fortuna's and their branch families work should be stated. Since their inception, the few men and women who created the main family became obssesed with Luck, Fate and Destiny, believing that, if they could harness those concepts, then, they surely would get to their final destination soon after, and to start with that Journey, they first had to study them, to know Fate intimately. The answer to the question of "did they create the Tarot" seems to have been lost in time, even if they like to said they did; but what is known is the fervor with which they follow it. With the centuries, many branch families with their own way to look at this predicament that was the search for the Root were born. Some decided to treat life as just a game, with 「 」 as the grand prize, while others, treated their lives as just the first stage on their spiritual journey to it. The Scalognattos, a relatively young family of only 200 years, decided to go with the second approach. Using the stages of the 22 Major Arcanas, which describes the Journey of an individual from Zero, boundless posibilities, to spiritual completion, they groomed each individual in the family to represent and embody one of theses Arcanas, so that each and every one of the heirs, from childhood, would undergo this Journey, and, once they were to depart this world, they would imprint their part of this Journey on the magic crest. Surely, with enough repetitions, one day they would reach their goal?. Giovanni was no exception to this, having lived his life on a rail until the day it all went wrong. As it turns out, the main family had been having difficulty in having heirs for quite some time, either born too weak, too frail or too inept for their position. Far from seeing this as it was, that of their esteemed lineage eventual end, the members of the Fortuna's just saw it as an augury, a signal of Fate itself that their time had come to not only stop trying, but yield up their spot and choose a succesor family. Soon, each and every Head of the branch families was given an ironclad Geas to firm, with their family crest on the line if they were to disobey it. The reason for this? A new main family would be chosen from those present, and no matter what, nobody could dispute this once it was done. The method? a simple, not magical, reading of Fate. And so it was chosen, from dozens and dozens of potential candidates, the one with the least compatibility for this great role. Without losing a moment, the priceless crest that only a heir of the main family could have got, one that many would kill to have just a fragment in their hands, was transfered to Giovanni, and, as Luck would have it, not only the transfer went without any problems, the crest itself sinergized with the style of magecraft he perfomed. From that moment, his small, branch family became the main one, with all that that entailed. Politics, backstabbings, deals. it was a station he was completely unprepared for. It was only a few months later that he decided he needed to "expand his horizons". He took a few things and became a wanderer fortune teller. Nobody stopped him of course, not only he prohibited, he said that "if Fate is truly on my side, nothing bad will happen to me". With nothing to anchor him to the Clocktower, he left without hesitation. The only thing he would, perhaps, at times miss, were the sight of that peculiar, emotionless man that without a doubt, had more fire and will in him that any of the other wannabes, pompous scions that he had to share classes with. That one man was an interesting sight. It would seem he was right, after all, after some 20 years on his "pilgrimage", nothing too bad had happen to him yet. Sure, he had his altercations here and there, but what did people expect from him? Is not like he knows every and all cultures and proper way to respect the place he's walks. Maybe that one time he tried to test his luck and dig some ancient ruins in search of gold in Australia was a bad idea, that one girl that chased him out surely though so, but the time he has wrongly apprehended by that executor in search of another magus? He, like always, put the faults in the Fate that was given to him. Luckily what it would seem was a local citizen bailed him out that one time... the opposite of what happened in Japan, THAT one, was, without a doubt, not his fault in the slightest, it just happened that randomly one of various... what were they called? shrine priestess or something decided he had done something "uncouth" and kindly informed him to get out of her country. Now, rumours of an event known as the Holy Grail War in Budapest has reached his ears, and what better place to truly test his Fate that a place were legendary heroes are used as living weapons? He decided to arrive a few days earlier in hopes of the Grail finding him worthy, and what did you know? he was. But maybe the Wish machine didn't have that high of a bar to start with. When he arrived, by chance, he saw what it seemed like a random kid with the same type of mark on his hand. Giovanni became interested in this boy, reminding him of the Zeroth card in his deck, that of the Fool, with infinite possibilities, and what better than a young kid to represent that? Now all he needed to do was wait. If all the other participants were as peculiar as the one he saw, then his decision to come to this place was the right one. This would be an occasion to remember. What would be stronger? His Fate or the Fate of those that are going to be his rivals in this conflict? There was only one way to find out. Number of Magic Circuits: D Quality of Magic Circuits: C
Magecraft: The Tarot: The word Tarot has accrued many meanings throughout the eras. For some, a game, for others, the map to infinite wisdom and a higher existance. The branch family of the Scalognattos personal focus relies specifically in the Major Arcanas, and all the Luck (Fate) that comes with them, for better or for worse. One could say that they are slaves to their own magecraft, but then, aren't all humans too, slaves to their own fates? Giovanni itself, due to his affinity and way of life, is greatly experienced in the art of embedding energy into and from his cards into those that had entered the "contract" that is fortune telling with him. The most common of these contracts are those he establish with everyone that agrees to a reading of Fate with him. Each and every one of these individuals Fate will eventually become linked to anyone they come in contact with, after all, a person Fate is not only their own, it becomes entangled to those he or she interacts with. This web of destinies allows Giovanni to not only increase the potency of his future divinations but is instrumental in showing the true power of his magecraft. People are not the only beings with Fate in this world, the Land itself can be said to be sporting one. After aligning the Tarot to the earth crusts and, with that, to the Leylines of the Land, Giovanni will effectively "read" the Fate of the city and, subsequently, enter a contract with it. And who is the determinator of that Fate but the dealer itself? The weaver of the network of Fate, The one that originally manifested it to the people/Land entering the contract, who later would spread it through the Land/people. In a way, it can be said that a city is just the sum of the Land and the people living in it, and, what better way to control the city that controlling the components in it? The Major Arcana: Also called the "Greater Misteries", the Major Arcana are a list of 22 cards, each with it's own symbolism and significance, that describes the earthly and spiritual Journey of a man into a higher existance. Combining and mixing these 22 cards, Giovanni is able to power up his magecraft with various effects depending on not only the Arcana he has chosen, but the direction it's facing. Magic Crest: 400 Years old. The first of the gifts given to him. A stroke of Luck that wouldn't, couldn't have happened in a million years. An enormous weight that he is reminded for everyday in the search to, paradoxically, find the answer of why he was chosen to carry it.
Equipment: Mundane: Various deck of cards, corresponding to the different interpretations of the Major Arcana. For someone like him, even mere plastic and cardboard serve his magecraft as long as the recipient of the contract believes in the symbolism they represent. A number of objects one would use if his life was on the constant move, like a canteen of water, matches, flares and more. Mystic Codes Name: Palla Di Cristallo Quality: Very High Description: The second of the gifts given to Giovanni. A perfectly round crystal ball that has been in the Fortuna family for generations. While the functions expected of a crystal ball are doable, and Giovanni also uses it as a mean to synchronize with the Land, the real reason this mystic code is so valuable is in it's purpose as an "omni-directional" prism capable of proccesing Luck (Fate) through it's surface, subsequently changing it's "color". While, in theory, as a sphere with infinite sides, it should be able to proccess infinites Fates, in actuality this would take an equally large amount of magical energy, so it remains just that, a theoretical function. Name: Mazzo De Tanta Meraviglie Quality: Average Description: A deck holder made by Giovanni, it has the function of reinforcing the concept of any Tarot card he saves inside it for a few hours, making them more useful in his magecraft that the ones he has to spare. He usually has the full 22 Major Arcana inside it in any given moment, plus any one off of others cards of the Tarocchi. Name: Cappotto del Viaggiatore Quality: Average Description: A coat he uses in his travels. Arrayed with a number of defensive enchantments, it's protective power is enough to guard the user from ordinary knives and swords without a scratch. If push comes to shove, it would be enough to even safeguard him from gun fire. Giovanni, furthermore, added a function to mitigate the consequences of the elements, ideal to use as a makeshift bed in any type of climate. Name: Anello del Vagabondo Quality: Average Description: A magic ring Giovanni uses as a medium for the act of dowsing the Land. Generally, he uses it to find "good places to sleep for the night", but, if he wanted to, he could try to use it to find more important locations, like a high spiritual place or even a leyline, although that would require time and concentration.
