It was true what he had said. Brynn's "apology" hadn't been much of one, but Valeria wouldn't go as far as to call her an asshole. Or Talon one either. People had to be direct with their words, or there would be misunderstandings. It was the way she did things. Valeria knew she could be kind of slow sometimes. She had trouble seeing social cues or reading the room, but she tried. "Why? Why are you sorry?" She turned her body to look at him fully, her head tilting to the side. There was no fear, no anger, no disappointment in her face. Just curiosity. Why did he have to leave now? She was gone, right? Everything was okay now. "You don't have to go, I mean unless you want to." She crouched down to pick up the stone he had dropped and offered it to him with a small smile. Her eyes caught the blood that had spilled down to the rock under them. Valeria looked at his hands, her eyebrows knotting with worry. Why did he have to hurt himself? She didn't understand. "I can heal you." She reached down to take his wrist and turn his hand, so his palm was facing up. Without hesitation, she placed her other hand over his. Her hand began to glow a pink color, soft and warm. Her gaze was glued on his hand, ignoring everything else. A second or two later, she pulled her hand back and grinned up at him. "Ta-da!" She waved his newly healed hand in front of his face. She had to stand on her toes to do that. Why was everyone in this camp so damn tall?
