[sup]Valentine could be described as a pretty boy. His face is delicate and sculpted, with soft lips and perfect cheekbones. He stands at six feet exactly and is slim but toned in stature. Many would describe his eyes as piercing and his black hair as silky. When it comes to his fashion sense, Valentine dresses mostly in all black but sometimes dips into blue tones. [/sup]

[sup]Cold-hearted, stoned face, antisocial – all words the student body use to describe Valentine. Prickly, he puts up walls between him and others with curt responses and apathetic interactions. Rarely does he show emotion to others and the only thing he seems to concentrate on are his studies, mathletes, and basketball. Even then, though, he seems dispassionate. Despite being a loner, Valentine does have a few friends, but even then he doesn’t share much.

This is all an exterior, though. Behind the mask, Valentine is a warm-hearted and compassionate person. He is fiercely protective of his little sister and mother. When he considers someone his person, he will go to lengths to protect them from hardships and has a caring touch. He's also a total dork.

Valentine is what you could consider wealthy. His father, Cassian Lee, was a representative for Korea’s national team for the Olympics, while his mother stayed at home with Valentine and his sister for their early childhood. They lived in the neighborhood of Gang-Nam in South Korea, a neighborhood known for affluential. After they were born, Millie Jean began struggling with post-partum depression and eventually was admitted into the hospital after a particular incident. 

Valentine’s paternal grandparents were not very happy with Millie Jean – they were against Cassian’s marriage to her in the first place and this acerbated their relationship. Eventually, Valentine’s grandparents threatened to take custody of his sister and him. Calliope and Valentine spent a week at their estate until Millie Jean could prove that she was healthy enough to take care of her children. After the debacle, Cassian moved the children to Los Angeles.

Quickly adjusting, Valentine settled into LA life rather easily. Cassian split his time between South Korea and LA while his mother began working at UCLA, teaching World Literature. Valentine wasn’t particularly social, instead preferring to keep to himself. He only really made an effort with his sister, spending most of his time with her.

Things changed for him when, one day, Calliope and him were taken from their school by their nanny and Shanghaied to the hospital. There, Millie Jean waited for them in a hospital gown. In that moment, Valentine had two epiphanies: he didn’t want his mother to die, and it was his job to keep the family together. With Cassian splitting his time between Korea and the US, Valentine began taking care of his little sister to ease the burden off his mother. Often, Valentine would get them up for school and make them dinner. He dismissed their nanny and opted to take care of them himself. He became his mother’s guardian, ensuring she took her pills everyday and somedays would stay home from school to keep her company on particularly bad days.

Valentine was apathetic about most things. He never really acquired a passion for anything, so in high school he took up a sport and started mathletes to buff up his college applications. He was good at most things, studies came easy to him and basketball even easier. Most of his time was split taking care of the family and his various activities, though he never spent time with friends.

Things changed after a family dinner went awry. Calliope, sick of her family pretending everything was okay, had an outburst that left the family speechless. Valentine had been ignorant of her feelings, and swore to himself to pay more attention to her from then on. He comforted her after her outburst, held her in his arms, and when she decided to go to Marble Heights Academy, he followed her. Valentine was reluctant to leave his mother, but Cassian had returned to take care of her.

Junior year of high school at Marble Heights was spent what he was best at, keeping to himself. Sure, he made a few friends, but for the most part he kept them at arms’ length and concentrated all his social energy in taking care of Calliope.
