His father was Ujung Aldar Khan of Bomba, his mother was a woman from another tribe; the two had tried for a child for two years unsuccessfully, they tried various medicines and cures but nothing worked and eventually sought the advice of a herdsman who had 19 children. They called the herdsman in and he explained his secret: when the horses began to rut, he and his wife would watch them mate, then go mate themselves. Promising to reward the herder if the trick worked, Ujung Aldar Khan agreed to try it. The couple secretly stole out to the steppe and hid behind a large rock so that they could watch a stallion and mare mate. Afterwards, they returned to their palace and tried for a child. The trick worked, and several months later it became apparent that Urmaa was pregnant. Ujung Aldar Khan sent the herdsman 100 cows as a reward. Urmaa was pregnant for 10 months, but could not give birth. When she finally did give birth, it was to a strange red mass. Ujung Aldar ordered a servant to throw it out, but then a voice cried from within, "I'm suffocating! Let me out of here!" They tried to cut the red mass open with a sword, but the sword merely chipped. Master Choirom came and recommended that they use Sword given by the Jade Emperor, and with this sword they were able to cut the red mass and free the large baby boy within. The baby's skin had auspicious markings: a red mole and a birthmark on his butt. The child was strong and kicked his leather swaddling cloths to pieces, making Urmaa afraid that her son was ill-fated to cause destruction. She begged Ujung Aldar to let the child die, but he appreciated his son's strength and refused. The tribe celebrated the baby's birth together. Ujung Aldar became so preoccupied with his new son that he began to neglect the affairs of the tribe, particularly the defenses. A Manggus, or devil, called Goljing had long been an enemy of Bomba. Seeing Ujung Aldar's weakness, he attacked with 10,000 warriors on black horses and easily captured Bomba. Ujung Aldar Khan and his wife and son were besieged in their palace. Seeking to save his son's life, Ujung Aldar put a piece of white jade in his son's mouth, placed him on the horse Aranjagaan, and sent his servant Menhbayar to take the child to safety. He also gave the servant the Aram spear, a weapon that had been passed down for generations. Then Ujang Aldar fought the invaders until he and his wife were cut down. The servant took the child to Big Black Mountain and hid him in a cave, then walked back to the palace to see what had happened. Discovering everything destroyed and the Khan dead, he decided to take his revenge by attacking some of the invaders as they sat around a fire. He killed one of them, but was soon killed himself. In the mountain cave, the boy sucked the white jade to keep himself from growing hungry or thirsty for a few days. But eventually he began to cry. A man named Mengen Xigxirge was hunting nearby, and he noticed the horse Aranjagaan grazing. Wanting to see what the horse was doing there, he went closer, and heard the baby crying. He followed the noise and discovered the cave. At first Mengen Xigxirge wanted to adopt the boy, so he decided to give him the name "Jangar." The boy immediately agreed that this should be his name and declared that he would become master of the world. This frightened Mengen Xigxirge, who was worried that Jangar might dispossess his own son, Hongor. So he decided to leave Jangar there with some food and water and left. Jangar went outside and roared, and all the animals living nearby came to see what the noise was. He befriended them and they fed him and taught him their skills. She-wolves suckled him, and deer brought him fruit. He learned to roar from a tiger, to hunt from an eagle, and to run from an antelope. Jangar lived in the wild for two years, soon attaining the age of three. One day an old man appeared while Jangar was sitting under a tree. The man told him about what had happened to his parents and trained him in martial arts and magic. But no sooner had Jangar learned these things than he woke up—it was morning, and it had all been a dream. Nonetheless, he felt strong, and discovered that he could uproot a tree and smash a camel-sized rock with it. He mounted Aranjagaan and went home to kill Goljing. Three-year-old Jangar fought his way to Goljing's palace, destroying three strongholds on the way, and thrust his spear into the Manggus' chest, killing him. Then Jangar climbed up on the roof of the palace and called back all the people who had fled after the invasion. He became Khan and Bomba flourished again. Meanwhile, another ruler named Shar Durdeng began raiding the outskirts of Bomba for livestock, women and children. Jangar was upset, and the three-year-old Khan took up his spear and rode alone to face his new enemy. To reach Shar Durdeng's palace, Jangar had to fight for seven months and 19 days. He overthrew four strongholds, and finally reached the crystal palace by the sea where his enemy dwelt. He snuck inside and found everyone drunk. Taking hold of the intoxicated Shar Durdeng, Jangar threw him off his throne, and proceeded to break ribs and spinal bones until Shar Durdeng agreed to leave Bomba in peace and pay taxes and tribute. By the age of five, Jangar had defeated five Mangguses and quintupled the size of the Bomba's territory. Jangar is proficient with common shamanistic skills just as communication with spirits, healing sickness caused by malevolent spirits and the usage of spirits as guides or messengers. He can also perform simple divination rites such as dream interpretation. Natural Body (A) – As a baby Jangar was able to kick apart his leather swaddling clothes and possessed the ability to speak from the moment he was born.
Noble Phantasm
Title: Aram Spear; The Spear that protects Bomba Rank: B NP Type: Anti-Unit Range: 6-8 Maximum Number of Targets: 1 Description: A weapon passed down the line of Khan’s for generations; carried by Jangar’s father, his grandfather and those before them, the spear carries the aspirations and desires of Jangar’s ancestors to found and create a place where no suffering or pain exists. The nation of Bomba was that place, founded by Jangar’s grandfather, destroyed by his father’s negligence and resurrected and protected by Jangar throughout his life; it is a place where there are no orphans or widows, where no one grows old and is remembered today both as a golden age and as a land of the future the people of Mongolia continue to aspire towards. As the Khan and protector of Bomba, Jangar wielded the Aram Spear in its defence many times and against many foes, as did his ancestors before him and his descendants after him. The Aram Spear has been a constant throughout the entirety of the kingdom’s history, no matter who the current Khan is or what befalls them; it is the symbol of the Khan and the defender of Bomba. Bomba will continue to exist as long as this spear and its defender exist to protect it. This long history has given rise to the Aram Spear as a conceptual weapon which sublimates its myth into an ability that protects the wielder from death; Bomba will exist as long as the wielder of this spear lives, and the wielder of this spear will live as long as he holds this spear. This effect fortifies the user against death itself making even great wounds a negligible factor. Healing abilities will also have their efficiency drastically raised. It is particularly useful against status effects, and grants resistance alongside advantageous checks to resist or clear them each turn. By activating the true name of this spear Jangar is able to establish a territory that will be designated as the new Bomba wherever he is standing in a radius around him. This removes the Aram Spears protections as a conceptual weapon and instead brings that protection across a wider area; any citizen of Bomba, which in this case includes the Khan and anyone the Khan considers a citizen, will be protected while standing within the borders of Bomba established by this effect. This protection acts as the passive ability of the Noble Phantasm albeit at reduced power. Even without taking its powers into account it is a monstrous weapon; twelve feet in length, as wide around the haft as a small tree and with a weight to match, the Aram Spear requires superhuman strength to even lift, let alone wield effectively, and crushes those it is used against as much as it pierces them. Title: White Jade; Stone of Purification and Healing Rank: C NP Type: Anti-Unit (Self) Range: N/A Maximum Number of Targets: 1 Description: When the Manggus Goljing attacked Bomba, Jangar’s father Ujung Aldar Khan sought to save his son’s life by sending him away. He placed a piece of white jade in his son’s mouth, placed him on the red steed Aranjagaan and sent him away with his servant Menhbayar to take the child to safety. He also gave the servant the Aram spear, a weapon that had been passed down for generations. Then Ujang Aldar fought the invaders until he and his wife were cut down. The servant took Jangar to Big Black Mountain and hid him in a cave before returning to Bomba to find out what had happened. The jade sustained Jangar for several days, keeping him from feeling hunger or thirst. Years later, when Jangar was fighting the archer Altan Gheej and was struck by his arrow, Jangar placed the same piece of white jade in his mouth to stave off the poison it carried. The White Jade is an item given to Jangar by his father as a child to keep him safe. It is abundant in healing and purifying energy and was used by Jangar several times during his life to keep himself alive or to fight off harmful effects, whether that is poison or even starvation. When this Noble Phantasm in held it boosts the natural healing abilities of the holder, allowing them to recover from wounds faster than they would otherwise, and grants extra resistance against the effects of poison or other harmful substances. It consists not so much in defeating others but in not being defeated.”
Name: Tsukahara Bokuden Title(s): Sword Saint Class: Saber Gender: Male Alignment: Neutral Good
Personality: Bokuden is a warrior who has fought in many battles, defeated multiple famed opponents, and who feels he no longer has anything to prove. The adventurous spirit he had in his youth has been sated, having travelled the country three times over on pilgrimages, and his desire to prove his strength and his skill has been replaced by a calm and assured confidence in his own abilities. He is a warrior who seeks to avoid unnecessary conflict, a rarity for a samurai born and raised in a tumultuous time of war and bloodshed, who would rather talk his way out of a fight that draw blood if possible. Objective for the Grail: “It’s a small and somewhat selfish wish, but I’d like to see the school I created restored to its former glory. My techniques were given to me by Takemikazuchi , so to see them lost to time and war saddens me.” Biography: Bokuden was born in 1489 as the second son to Yoshikawa family, Shinto priests of the Kashima shrine who were in the service of the Kashima clan. The Kashima shrine was considered to be a holy place of Budo, or Japanese martial arts, as a thousand years prior a priestly celebrant named Kuninazu-no-Mahito built an altar at Kashima Shrine and by praying day and night he attained the secret techniques of the Divine Sword; these techniques were passed on mainly to the Yoshikawa family by the Shinto priests of Kashima Shrine. These secret techniques are called Kashima-no-Tachi (the Sword of Kashima) and, as the time passed, their name was changed from Kashima Jōko-ryū to Kashima Chuko-ryū. As a child Tsukahara Bokuden was taught the family heirloom of Kashima Chuko-ryū by his father Akikata. At the age of 10 he was requested for service and adopted by the Lord of Tsukahara Castle, Tsukahara Tosanokami Yasumoto. This man was the advanced student of the founder of Tenshinshouden Katori Shinto-ryū, and he taught Bokuden the style called Katori Shinto-ryū. From his early life Bokuden was taught two styles of Kashima and Katori by his fathers and, during his early years, he already distinguished himself as the one having outstanding skills in swordsmanship. At the age of 17 Bokuden set out on his first of three pilgrimages, during which he found his first real taste of combat against the renowned swordsman Ochiai; Bokuden defeated him easily and chose to spare the man, only for his humiliated opponent to try and ambush him later in revenge. Bokuden killed the more skilled opponent with a single cut and was then forced to take the Ochiai’s place in the armies of the local daimyo as a result. He spent the next few years fighting in fierce battles, often on the front lines, and didn’t return home until nearly thirteen years after his departure. Upon returning home the first time, he isolated himself for prayer as Kashima shrine at the advice of his master to repair the spiritual damage of many life-or-death encounters. It was a rigorous ascetic practice that lasted about 1000 days, during which he stayed at Kashima Shrine and practiced the art of the sword, praying to the deity of warfare, Takemikazuchi. Through this ascetic training Bokuden acquired the secret techniques of “Hitotsu-no-Tachi”, or “One Stroke”, from Takemikazuchi who appeared to him in his dreams. Combining these techniques with his existing style, Bokuden then began to call his style Kashima Shinto-ryū from then on. Tsukahara Bokuden became the lord of Tsukahara Castle at the end of his second pilgrimage at the age of 45, taking a wife who unfortunately died only ten years later. By the time of his third pilgrimage he was famous enough to be followed by a large retinue on his travels, attended to by eighty followers and bringing along multiple spare horses and three large hawks which flew at the head of his procession. It was at this point that he decided to take on a student in order to pass on his techniques and experience to the next generation. In his later years, Bokuden handed over his place at Tsukahara Castle to his son in order to convert to Zen and become a Buddhist priest. He died at the age of 83. Although never trained as a Magus himself, Tsukahara still possesses magic circuits and has some innate protection against Magecraft. Cancel spells with a chant below three verses. In life Tsukahara was a preternaturally skilled swordsman, one who was able to defeat many famed opponents and take part in multiple battles at the site of the fiercest fighting without once being injured by his opponents. From his first duel with live blades at the age to 17 to his retirement from combat in old age, defeating all challengers and surviving ambushes and assassinations, Tsukahara killed over 200 men without once feeling the sting of a blade. It could be said that Tsukahara’s swordsmanship is at the level where trying to attack him with a melee weapon of any kind of pointless. He doesn’t have the best of luck with arrows however. Kashima Shintō-ryū (A++) – A school of traditional Japanese swordsmanship created by Tsukahara Bokuden after spending 1000 days training at the Kashima Shrine and praying to the deity of warfare, Takemikazuchi. It was said that Takemikazuchi appeared to him in a dream and taught him the secrets of “Hitotsu-no-Tachi”, or “one sword/stroke”, after which he renamed his style Kashima Shintō-ryū after the shrine. As the creator and first master of this style, Tsukahara has a rank above A in this skill. Created during a time of feudal war, the school's techniques are based on battlefield experience and revolve around finding weak points in the opponent's armour, thus giving Tsukahara an advantage against armoured opponents that he might otherwise have difficulty fighting. The style also contains a number of iaijutsu techniques that allow for striking as the sword is drawn. Disengage (B) – In his later life Tsukahara grew tired of constantly feeling the need to prove himself against strong opponents as he was already extremely confident in his abilities and he began to see the merit in avoiding conflict as opposed to having to constantly show himself to be the best. This mentality culminated in the creation of the “No Sword Style”, where Tsukahara defeated an arrogant younger opponent by tricking him into jumping off of the ferry they were on to have a duel and then promptly leaving him on an island alone. Has the effect of returning battle conditions to what they were at the beginning of the match (1st turn) and restores the condition of this Skill to the initial value. A counter attack delivered at the last possible moment before an opponent’s attack reaches, avoiding all damage and striking the opponent with an unavoidable swing of Tsukahara’s sword. However, while powerful this Noble Phantasm can only be used when Tsukahara has had a chance to view his opponent’s fighting style or techniques. The essence of this technique lies in the wielder’s ability to accurately judge the distance between oneself and the opponent’s blade and in choosing the right moment to strike; if done correct the swordsman has nothing to fear as the enemies blade will never reach them and they are therefore able to devote all of their energy towards attacking at the moment they commit to an attack and leave themselves open. It was this technique that allowed Tsukahara to defeat his toughest opponents without receiving so much as a scratch in return. It can also be used defensively, as even if Tsukahara’s sword cannot reach the enemy this Noble Phantasm can be used to parry or deflect attacks, as was done during his duel with a master of the naginata where he was able to intercept and destroy his opponent’s weapon before winning the duel with his next strike. He was a skilled archer and hunter and for a time was a hunting companion of Artemis, though it was far from an equal relationship as the hunter had to swear a vow of deference to the Goddess which was enforced by ritual. One day, while out hunting with his dogs, he came across the Goddess bathing naked in a spring and was so moved by her beauty that he approached her and tried to make himself her consort. However Artemis rejected Actaeon and as revenge for seeing her naked and for transgressing the hunter’s sworn deference she forbade him to speak, warning him that he would be turned into a stag should he ever say a word. Despite this dire warning however, upon hearing his hunting dogs approaching he instinctively called out to them and was immediately transformed; he fled them, running through the woods until he came upon a pond and saw his reflection in the calm waters of the spring he saw what he had become. In a bid to save himself he raised his eyes towards Mount Olympus, but the Gods did not answer his plea and he was torn to pieces by his dogs. After his death his hounds were distraught and could not be consoled under Actaeon’s former teacher Chiron created a statue in his likeness so lifelike that the hounds thought it was Actaeon. A former Union soldier, he was known as “The Black Constable” by his people, the Gullah, for being the only law they needed; when people needed help, it was Domingo they turned to rather than the police. Even among other practitioners of voodoo, Domingo’s skill was legendary and his love spells and healing were renowned, as was his ability to control the weather. His power greatly exceeded that on his contemporaries and he was known as the strongest conjure-man in the state, possibly the entire country. To the sick he was a healer; to the ambitious he brought fortune; to the newly bereaved he was a medium for the spirits of the dead; to the old, the forlorn and the ugly he could help them to find young, attractive mates; to the local fishermen he could calm the weather or summon favourable winds. He was well respected and even beloved by his people, but there was a dark side to this power; to those who wronged or crossed him he was vengeful and he would use his powers to deliver curses and punishments. As a necromancer and zombi-man it was said that Domingo could raise the dead, and it was whispered that his house was filled with their souls and with zombie servitors whose shuffling shadows kept unwelcome visitors at bay. John’s visits to the local cemeteries raise up his servant army were spoken of in hushed tones by the town’s Gullah population, and the fear and awe that he engendered kept the neighbourhood safe and both the police and the Charleston guard from his door. Domingo derived his great power from a solid silver ring in the shape of a serpent coiled around his finger; he claimed the ring had been made somewhere along the Congo River and that it contained the power of Damballa, The Grand Master, one of the most powerful of all Loa and the primordial creator of all life according to the voodoo religion. The ring greatly increased the power of his magecraft and granted him the ability to summon lesser Loa to do his bidding. The Black Constable ultimately met his end at the hands of a power greater than his own as a result of his own hubris. One night Domingo was called on to apprehend two thieves, dragging them through the street with one in each hand; to the assembled onlookers he called out “I am just like Jesus, with a thief on either hand”, then he paused as if considering something before saying, “except I am more powerful than Jesus!” He paused again, standing up straight with a look of bewilderment on his face as he stared at something no one else could see. Domingo rose up on to his toes as if being lifted up by something and several bystanders swore that they saw the impressions of long fingers wrapped around his neck; he let go of the thieves, who immediately fled, and began to claw at his throat as he made noises like the breath was being squeezed out of him. For a moment he seemed to dangle in the air and then was thrown backwards to the ground. Before anybody could reach him he had aged a good number of years, becoming an old man, and his face had turned the colour of a withered cucumber. The onlookers carried his body to the market house and laid him out on a counter. A doctor arrived and pronounced Domingo dead but even as he looked at the body it seemed to wither and shrivel up even more causing those who witnessed it to flee. By the time anyone was brave enough to return the body was gone. It is this ring, in the shape of a coiled serpent and worn on the forth finger of his right hand, to which Domingo attributes his great power. Le Grand Zombi has a passive effect which greatly increases Domingo’s magical ability, beyond what a magus of his era should be capable of. When this Noble Phantasm is activated the ring acts as a means for Domingo to summon Loa, powerful nature spirits which act as the intermediary between humanity and God in voodoo, and bring them under his command. Even from a young age, it was obvious that the two boys had great potential as warriors both physically and spiritually and at the age of ten they were selected to learn Silat alongside three other companions. Their teacher was Adi Putera, a renowned master who lived a hermetic life at the top of a mountain; under the guru's tutelage, Hang Jebat, Hang Tuah and their three compatriots were taught the arts of self-defence and meditation. Several years later Tun Perak, an important figure in the Sultanate of Malacca, was in the area near Hang Jebat’s training grounds investigating a group of bandits causing disturbances in the region. The man was set upon by the bandits and his guards fled, but Hang Jebat and his companions witnessed the attack and intervened. They fought the group and, because of their ferociousness, forced the bandits to flee. Tun Perak was amazed by the courage of Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat and their companions. He rewarded them and presented them to Sultan Muzaffar Syah, whereby they entered into his service as warriors. In service to the Sultan the five warriors committed many great deeds, but it was Hang Jebat’s friend and closest companion Hang Tuah and his absolute loyalty to the Sultan who was the greatest of them. Hang Tuah became the sultan's constant aide, accompanying the king on official visits to foreign countries. On one such visit to Majapahit, Hang Tuah fought a duel with the famed martial arts master Taming Sari. After a brutal fight Hang Tuah emerged as winner and as a reward the ruler of Majapahit bestowed upon him the famed warrior’s kris, which was named after him; a weapon purported to be magical, empowering its owner with physical invulnerability. This fame and renown eventually turned out to be Hang Tuah’s downfall however, as his deep loyalty to and popularity with the sultan led to rumours being circulated that Hang Tuah was having an illicit affair with one of the sultan's court stewardesses. The sultan then sentenced Hang Tuah to death without trial for the alleged offence. After Hang Tuah was sentenced to death, Hang Jebat was given the coveted Taming Sari kris that he had wielded. However, believing that his friend was unjustly murdered by the sultan he served, Hang Jebat turned against the ruler to avenge his friend's death. With the kris in his possession, Hang Jebat was undefeatable and there was not one person in the palace that was capable of killing him. Hang Jebat's revenge became a killing spree as he rampaged through the palace is a furious rebellion against the sultan; one that could not be stopped as none of the other warriors in the palace dared to challenge the more ferocious and skilled Hang Jebat. However, unbeknownst to both Hang Jebat and the Sultan, Hang Tuah had not actually been killed for his supposed crimes; his executioner, the chief minister, went against the sultan’s orders and hid Hang Tuah far away. After learning that Hang Tuah was still alive, the sultan recalled the warrior from hiding and gave him full amnesty before ordering Hang Tuah to kill Hang Jebat; being unquestionably loyal to the ruler, Hang Tuah obeyed the sultan's bidding and went on to challenge Hang Jebat. The battle between the two raged for seven days and nights, but eventually Hang Tuah was able to reclaim the Taming Sari from his friend by tricking him and used it to inflict a fatal stab wound. Even fatally wounded, Hang Jebat was able to escape, bandage his wound and continue his rampage for a further three days, killing further thousands of people before retreating to Tuah's house and dying in his friend's arms. The Melakan admiral Hang Tuah defeated Taming Sari in a duel, earning this weapon as his prize. The kris was handed down to Hang Jebat after Hang Tuah was executed, before the warrior used it to go on a rampage to avenge his companion. The Taming Sari has a passive ability which grants the wielder near invulnerability to physical attacks, greatly reducing the amount of damage he sustains from powerful attacks and nullifying weaker attacks entirely; even while fighting the more powerful Hang Tuah, it was not until Hang Jebat relinquished the Taming Sari that he was eventually wounded. However, this weapon only grants protection against physical attacks and offers no protection against magic or Noble Phantasms. Additionally, the Taming Sari can alert its wielder to danger, leaping from its sheathe and hovering in mid-air if they are in crisis, and can even be commanded to fly and fight of its wielders behalf.
