Tails is unwaveringly optimistic but also quite naive largely due to his age, despite being quite young the twin-tailed fox is very intelligent for his age and is deeply interested in mechanics. People generally get annoyed with him when he starts to rattle on and on about technical jargon, and at times he is big-mouthed. Although he is friendly with people Tails is quiet and timid around strangers, but often opens up after he gets to know them.
