The year is 20** and much of the world we know of as the Author remains the same. Society struggles greatly with the acceptance of that which is different, including, but not limited to: Alternative religions, lifestyles, sexuality, and the recent exposure of Therians. Brought into the open in 20** after a scandal in St. Louis, Therians have faced harsh discrimination and bigotry. Viewed as devil worshippers and as the product of bestiality, Therians that have been exposed are shunned from many towns and cities, despite the laws forbidding such discrimination. Regardless of their exposure, the majority of Human Society is ignorant to the Therian existence and maintains a continuous “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” mentality, as long as the Therians don’t interfere directly or blatantly with their livelihood. While the Therian Community is, in part, out and in the open, the Vampire Community remains a secret. They continue to run economics and government from the shadows as they have done for centuries. The Vampire Communities assure safe havens and occupations for the Therian Community and in turn the Therians do not expose their shadow lurking allies.

Attributes are also known as the five senses that all humanoids are capable of, whether or not they use all of them is up to you as the author. Your character, be it human, vampire, or therian, could be blind, deaf, mute, have allergies, and so on. These five attributes/senses are enhanced in all preternatural beings. The four additional attributes/senses are found only in the preternatural, and in some cases only to certain classes of preternatural. More information about these enhanced attribute will be noted in each Race/Species subsection. Main 5 Senses: Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste, and Touch. All* characters posses these to varying degrees.
*Exception being if you make your character blind/deaf/mute/etc

Chronoception relates to the perception of time, all living creatures possess this attribute, and there is no specific sensory system that can be associated with it. Chronoception is commonly felt in the form of jet lag when traveling or in the way that time seems to speed up or slow down depending on how busy you are.

Certain species of Therian have an enhanced perception of time, as to be detailed in the Therian species section.

All Vampires have an enhanced perception of the time around them and no matter what region of the Earth they are physically in they can feel when the sun is about to rise and when it is soon to set.

This attribute relates to the vomeronasal organ, or the Jacobson's organ. This is an auxiliary olfactory sense organ that is found in animals, Therians, and Vampires. The vomeronasal organ is mainly used to detect pheromones of marked territories, trails, and sexual state. The organ is dormant in humans because the associated neurons have not been developed.

Humans and many mammals can detect electric fields indirectly by detecting the effect they have on hair. An electrically charged balloon, for instance, will exert a force on human arm hairs, which can be felt through touch and identified as coming from a static charge. This is not electroreception, as it is a post-sensory cognitive action.

Electroreception is found primarily in Aquatic Therians and Vampires. Aquatic Therians utilize this attribute most prominently while in the water. Psionic Vampires have an attunement with electromagnetic energy, often referred to as the aura, surrounding all living things.

Certain animals, and their corresponding Therians, have the ability to determine orientation to other objects through interpretation of reflected sound (like sonar). They most often use this to navigate through poor lighting conditions or to identify and track prey. There is currently an uncertainty whether this is simply an extremely developed post-sensory interpretation of auditory perceptions or it actually constitutes a separate sense.

Predominantly found in Aquatic Therians, pressure detection uses the organ of Weber, a system consisting of three appendages of vertebrae transferring changes in shape of the gas bladder to the middle ear. It can be used to regulate the buoyancy of marine life.

Current Detection relates to the lateral line in marine life and aquatic forms of amphibians is a detection system of water currents, consisting mostly of vortices. The lateral line is also sensitive to low-frequency vibrations. The mechanoreceptors are hair cells, the same mechanoreceptors for vestibular sense and hearing. It is used primarily for navigation, hunting, and schooling. The receptors of the electrical sense are modified hair cells of the lateral line system.

Humans The first of the three playable races are the good old fashioned humans. They vary in height, weight, eye and hair colors that you would find in the Author’s world. Some are tattooed, pierced, wear contacts, glasses, or dye their hair. They vary between Religious beliefs, mental conditions, gender identification, lifestyles, and sexual preferences. There is much uniqueness to be found in a standard human, in addition to this there are three sub-races of humanity to be explored.

Mages ~ Fae Blood Ancestry
Those born with the ability to cast spells; the magical, or magi, humans are not much different than their everyday base race. With study, and practice, they become stronger in their ability to cast spells. The range of these spells depend on the character's time spent in study and practice.

Novice
Journeyman
Mage
Arch-Mage

Altered ~ Touched by the Supernatural
A human who has undergone an alteration from an Angel, a Demon, or an Animal Spirit, this class applies to those who maintain the mortal coil yet have enhanced attributes and unique abilities as well as slightly prolonged lives.

Angelic Alteration
Angelic lore is pulled from Judaic, Catholic, and Islamic believes. It is said the Archangel Barachiel was the first of the Angels to bestow this alteration blessing upon humans. Those “blessed” by an Angel generally have lighter auras which can be seen by those with the ability.
