She never knew her mother and didn't care too after a time. She was content to live her life working with her hands, helping her old-man provide for the other colonies. Afterall she had a gift with machines that seemed just right for her current situation. Every now and again, she would express a genuine interest in the workings of the colonies, the stars, and other obscure chemistries. An interest that hadn't escaped the notice of her sensible father. Wiping grim from his blistered knuckles, he posed the question of what she'd like to do with her life. She paused in the midst of her work, and that was all the answer he needed, but he let her try to convince him that she was happy to toil away in the dirt. A grunt was all he replied and from there he begun to save up for her future. When she turned sixteen, he proposed she apprentice to one of the locals. This unassuming man was her first steps towards Vitus. He taught her alot about agriculture and from there introduced her to biotech and environmental sciences. He loaned her books, stacks of them and she devoured the knowledge like food. On her eighteenth birthday, quaint as it was, her father slid a nondescript envelop across the wooden table. He took a sip of blacken coffee and simply told her to "Dream big." By the time she was twenty-two she had made her own contributions to the advancement of the colonies. Though they went down in history as group contributions. Two years later she would begin her studies into Advance Humans after dealing with her father's untimely death, at times treating the subjects more like machines than people. Because of the trauma associated with her father's death at the hands of a once-trusted neighbor, Tessa leaned heavily into a sense of self-reliance and distrust of others. Two more years had softened Tessa's edge and left her wondering what she truly wanted out of life. It was the discovery of an Innovator on the moon that had sparked something inside. After having the amnesiac pushed on her and discovering the youth to be oddly magnetic and naïve, she decided to take the responsibility of his education onto herself. From there the two seemed to peel each other apart and formed a sister-brother bond in the span of six months. She hopes to protect him but fears that the world might take him away unjustly. With talks of presenting some of their patients to Side 3 for military inspection, Tessa's starting to feel that her worries are founded.
