Which I understand, but in this case interversal fate literally plays a major role. It's not so strong as, say, something in Marvel, but it is there and it is pulling him to his destiny. That obviously being accepting his place as a Living God and returning to his home Verse. So don't feel too bothered if it seems contrived, because it's meant to be to a certain extent.

In a more concrete example, fate would also find ways for him to use his powers as well, something he wants to avoid.
