Roku is not the most masculine fellow. Rather, he's often mistaken as a woman. At a height of 5'5", he's well below the average of someone his age. It's difficult to notice his physique underneath the baggy clothing and aprons he wears. He has the physique of a martial lifestyle, although his physique isn't built. The most noticeable part of his body are his hands. Large, calloused, and scarred, they are a testament to his style of combat. Though, they're usually hidden by cooking mittens.

The most striking part of his appearance is his countenance. At all times, he's equipped with a soft smile and comforting expression. Though, he rarely blinks.

Roku could be described as a lackadaisical person. He has the sole passion of cooking, but even then it's something that's never went beyond home chef. After all, actual cooking is much too stressful for him. He's amiable to a fault, really. He's overtly agreeable towards others, choosing to not cause conflict with his peers above all else. Oddly enough, he's extraordinarily apathetic towards violence and doesn't really react to pain.

The boy's first memory was of his mother's cooking. Food was one of his only solaces in his life. The warmth of a meal and view of children's programming became routine,. Even though he couldn't remember his mother's face, he could still remember those meals that she made.

The boy's second memory was of the bullies at school. They struck him with trash and rods. Sure, he was different. It confused him why they disliked him enough to do such a thing. At first, he kept an eye out. It never worked. He didn't bother paying any mind after that. Eventually, he got used to avoiding the trash thrown at him.

The boy's third memory was of meeting his master. His master saw his rags on a cold winter day. Perhaps it was pity, perhaps it was genuine interest why the boy was still smiling. He invited the young boy to stay in his dojo. At least, only until it got warmer. To his surprise, the boy picked the lessons that the master's disciples were doing. The boy adapted fast. Rather quickly, he became a caretaker to the dojo and learned the muto-ryu between taking care of the dojo and his middle school obligations.

The boy's fourth memory was of his master's injury. It was only supposed to be a basic spar. A brief lapse of his master's concentration was all it took. A claw to his master's eye. Thankfully, inexperience lead to the blow being shallow. The master was left with a scar, but kept his vision. Rather than anger, the confused boy only received a laugh and a pat on the back. Maybe he could have held back a little, his master told him.

The boy remained dedicated to the martial way that his master offered. Between cooking, cleaning, and training, the boy had no complaints. Sure, he never went to high school. There wasn't much point in him going. His prior experience in schools hadn't really helped him. His master, however, wanted him to spread his wings.

And that led the boy to apply to the akasha agency. Maybe then he could use his talents for something more than housekeeping.

Muto-ryu, analogous to its name, is a style of swordsmanship that does not rely on a blade. Rather, it is closer to a hand-to-hand martial art designed to catch and destroy the blades and bodies of their opponents through catches, pressure-point attacks, and damage to ligaments and joints. Practitioners of the muto-ryu get angry when people bring this fact up as they consider their school one of swordsmanship.

The other three talents that Roku possesses are closer to requirements of the style.

A practitioner needs to detect the fastest iaijutsu to survive. As such, they're trained to observe, analyze, and predict the entire mechanism behind motions rather than rely on experience and guesswork.

Hand and finger strength is a given; a practitioner must be able to catch and redirect a blade, arrow, or anything between to survive.

Mushin is defined as a flowing state of thought with no direction or intention. This makes Roku's actions and reactions almost autonomous. If he sees a situation where something would work, he'll be able to go for it without having to thinking about anything else.

A unique attribute of Roku, it's almost impossible to determine what he's thinking. He emits zero bloodlust or killing intent, no matter how violent he may be.[/sup]

Treating his entire arm like a spear, Roku strikes in a straightforward method using the tips of his fingers as the initial contact point. This strike is usually aimed at joints and pressure points in order to debilitate and otherwise disable his opponent. However, more experienced practitioners of the Muto-ryu, are able to shatter bone and puncture steel using brute force.

Like the swing of a blade, Roku swipes using his index and middle finger with such immense force that it is able to rend flesh. However, the ability isn't strong because of its ability to cut. Rather, its power comes from the speed of which a single swipe can happen. Combined with Roku's constant state of mushin, it's not uncommon for random cuts to appear in brief lapses of concentration.

Taking a position similar to an iai, Roku positions for a counter that meets his opponent's attack halfway. Rather than stopping the attack using brute force, this technique redirects the force into a spiral to quickly negate the attack. At this point, Roku can do additional actions, such as grabbing the attack with his finger tips or redirecting the blow past him.[/sup]
