A melee heavy mech could work, like a sort of medieval knight in space kinda vibe, relying on its size and armor to keep it safe, while still being mobile enough to function as a fighter. Probably not melee [i]only[/i], but it could definitely be melee [i]heavy[/i], with a few supplementing ranged weapons so its not a sitting duck while making its way to the front.
