[*]Scars, Tattoos and/or Piercings: Charlie had lots of tattoos (all done illegally), the most notable of these being the Triple S logo on his neck. He also had “Death” on his right knuckles and a sword on his left forearm. He had many scars and would often come to school looking like he had gone five rounds with Mike Tyson. He had both of his ears pierced.
Personality Traits
In spite of what history will say about him; Charlie Decker was not an evil boy. When he was younger, he was inquisitive and intelligent; always asking questions and wanting to understand how the world worked. Charlie was often found with his head in a book or taking things apart and putting things together again. He would quote famous authors in conversation and write religiously in his journals. He was devoted to his mother and would do anything in his power to keep her happy. It was through this love for her that he started working with Triple S to try and help pay the bills. Charlie’s biggest issue was self expression; he could never really find it in his heart to let anyone see him for who he was. He kept himself to himself which ended up with him being bullied, being forgotten and him just taking it. The whispers around town didn’t help and a clear picture began to form in Charlie’s head, he just wasn’t welcome in this place. Upon Allison’s death which his drugs caused, the boy was overcome with tremendous guilt which he was never able to shake. As time moved on, the young man’s view of the world began to grow more and more apathetic and distant. The kids he grew up with were forging bonds and futures whilst Charlie remained stagnant. Failing class due to his extracurricular activities and unable to give them up due to the financial benefits they provided, Charlie was lost in a word he didn’t fully understand but was so desperate to. After his stabbing and expulsion from the Triple S gang, Charlie was unable to fully recover mentally. After realising that not a single person at school noticed he was gone, he had the entire summer to dwell, which coupled with the drug habit he had developed eventually led him to the tragic choices he made on the first day of senior year.
Biography
The short and tragic life of Charlie Decker was never going to be an easy one. Father James Winters ran Edenridge’s local church but lost everything in a fire, including several altar boys he failed to save. Falling into a deep depression, James lost his faith and broke most of vows whilst in this state. Amid this, he impregnated Rhonda Decker, a waitress from Southie. Eventually, James’ mental health deteriorated to the point where he eventually ended his own life via gunshot. Growing up with a single mother, on the wrong side of the tracks and being the bastard son of a fallen priest who committed suicide meant that Charlie was looked down upon by some of Edenridge’s more notable residents. He grew up with the perpetual feeling of being an outsider and being alone. As caring and loving as his mother was, Charlie never could really get over the feeling of abandonment and isolation that had nestled in his heart. He tried his best to find friends, including local girl Jade Taylor however; many wanted very little to do with the boy. Entering into high school, Charlie initially struggled to fit in and it soon became apparent that the world of Edenridge was more willing to accept others into their ranks than they were willing to accept Charlie. He was bullied relentlessly by the likes of Logan Rivers and as time passed he fell in with a local gang, the Triple S as a means of survival. Having become a dealer, Charlie was indirectly responsible for the death of Allison Davies by selling her the tainted drugs that took her life. Everything truly came to a head for Charlie when he went to collect some money from one of his customers in junior year. A fight ensued in which Charlie pulled a knife but it was wrestled away from him and he was stabbed. This action resulted in the implosion of the young man’s world; he was wounded and had lost all of the money he was supposed to collect. The Triple S did not take too kindly to this and kicked him out of the gang with a savage beating. He suffered a breakdown and was kept in the hospital for months. Charlie missed an entire semester at school and when he returned, nobody had noticed he was gone. A windfall of misfortune, substance abuse and a myriad of mental health issues finally broke down Charlie Decker. On the eve of senior year, he approached a contact from the Fallen Angels MC and got a hold of several guns. He was entranced by the notion of vengeance against a world that had wronged him and sought to make things right. Charlie kissed his mother goodbye that morning and entered Edenridge High earlier than most. He hid himself in the boiler room with a bottle of Jack and a whole lot of ammunition. Charlie was confronted by Roddy Callahan in the gym. After a tense confrontation, he shot Rod in the back before finally being shot himself by police. The memory of Charlie Decker is a blight in the lives of Edenridge’s residents. A misunderstood and mentally unstable boy has become a horror story lost to time. People have tried to forget the name but no one will ever forget Charlie Decker.
