I am currently reading Meltzer, Brad, "The Lincoln Conspiracy," Flatiron Books, New York (2020). It is nonfiction, but I enjoy reading history. It is about a conspiracy to kill the 16th US President in 1861. We are all familiar with John Wilkes Booth's assassination in 1865, but the first conspiracy was fomenting during the 1860 election year by a secret society known as the Knights of the Golden Circle who met frequently in Baltimore, Maryland. It is a very fascinating tale of the 19th century election process, opinions of the time and the political debates regarding slavery/abolitionism.
