It's due to this self-destructive mindset that he puts too much of himself in his schoolwork, and will overexert himself, especially around mid-terms and finals.  He keeps very few close friendships because of this, throwing himself into his work because of his belief that he's "failing his family" if he falls below the top 10 in his class.[/INDENT]

And then the car accident occurred, taking his mother from him. His father grew withdrawn after the tragedy, rarely coming home from work, and their house became filthier with every passing day. Hiroichi kept up appearances at school, still attempting to appear like the boy wunderkind, but even then he began to drop from 1st in his class to 3rd, then 5th. Since his behavior at school was still quiet and unassuming, no one reached out, isolating him further from others. [/INDENT]
