It could be nothing but luminescent crystals or fungi...but he also heard of beasties that would use light to lure in unsuspecting prey straight to their hungry jaws. And being prepared never hurt anyone.

Calmly drawing his rifle from its slung position over his shoulder, he observes proper gun handling etiquette but keeps his thumb ready on the safety just in case something looking for a meal decides to give them a warm welcome.
