As usual lots of posts during my sleep :P [@rezay] However, i think you forgot Flax and other plant fibers. It makes sense for them to focus on plant based things since they eat the stuff. As for yurts, i'd say they hunt Rhinos and Krollan specifically for hides. Just leaving the meat since to them it's a waste resource. As for the passage of time. I was expecting the months scale of things from last time, but there we had a weird racial memory so people sort of remembered stuff. So tech sort of improved monthly or quarterly. Which is hella fast, so here it'll probably be different. But yeah, it's also a question how many players want their characters to be important through time. If we want to we can just say that all races gain technologies faster than history (and those with intelligent are even faster). But yeah, discussions probs needed.
Plant fibers being used to make textiles is still a couple centuries ahead of the takhal at least (using the standards of the real world, may be shorter here). The problem is that you need to spin it into a yarn, and then put it on a loom to make fabric from the yarn. In the Neolithic, clothing was made primarily from animal skin, and such plant fibers were often used for threads in sewing these skins together, but not much else. *It really depends on where the takhal are. They are in the late stone age, so maybe this trip down south is when they start to put plant fibers to more extensive use. It does have to start somewhere, I suppose. Remember, they are very conservative, technology moves slowly. Unless there's someone to pawn the technology off of through trade. The only exception is something like this, which isn't something you'd make clothing from:
This is probably most similar to the technology level of the takhal, tools and clothing-wise.
Also, I have my reasons for them not hunting. Namely, it sort of bypasses the "herbivore" aspect of them, on a thematic level. What I mean by that is It seemed strange that they'd come up with the idea to actively seek out other creatures to kill and take things from. I do think there'd be a difference in the psychology of "We take care of these things, so they're our property and we can do what we wish with them" vs "We're going to actively seek out and kill these big herding animals minding their own business, who are huge and live a lot like we do." My conclusion was that they'd probably domesticate (or partially domesticate) something smaller before engaging in any large-scale hunting (that could be a shift later on, where the takhal become more aggressive and carnivore-like. Maybe they eventually develop into omnivores as a reaction to agriculture/sedentary lifestyle, for those of them that do adopt it. Lots of potential). Also, sacrificial practices in religious require a reliable supply of subjects. I wanted to incorporate that into their society early. I also thought it would be interesting to make them reliant on another creature to develop properly. You can't really extract milk by hunting, but that doesn't have to be the case of course. GM seemed fine with it though.
