    -Sam smashed the cigarette butt on the ground with the ball of his right foot. Rob chambered a round in his rifle, leaving the selector lever on safe. Jeff popped a stick of chewing gum in his mouth then slid upwards to look out the stone window over everyone's head. The air was cooler than it had been, maybe 55 degrees Fahrenheit. His helmet weighed heavy on his head. The smell of cordite and burned gunpowder wafted heavily in the air. The concrete building across the ten-meter wide road was pockmarked with bullet strikes--a reminder of the fight earlier in the morning. He scanned the several windows in his view but saw no movement then slid down into a kneeling position, "It appears to be clear," Jeff whispered to the others.
