[indent]Elaine Lancaster made her arrival to the town of Edenridge at fourteen years old, after her parents had decided to leave their previous Boston home in search of a more quiet, safer place to raise their only child. During her first few weeks at Edenridge High, Lanie struggled to find her place among the local kids-- the majority who had known each other one way or another since they were in diapers. It was only after making the school’s cheerleading team and being taken under the wing of queen bee Alison Davies that Lanie finally felt like she belonged. Her sunny personality and cheerful disposition helped to expand her network of friends and acquaintances, and soon enough the blonde reached popular status at the school. All in all, everything seemed to be going well for little Lanie… Until the fateful night her big sister Ali-- as she affectionately called her-- departed this Earth.

As incredibly sad and heartbroken as Lanie was, she refused to give herself too much time to dwell about what had happened. She knew Ali wouldn’t have wanted her girls to spend the rest of their high school careers lamenting themselves over things they couldn’t change. Instead, Lanie chose to honor her best friend’s memory by swearing off from drugs and volunteering to assist her peers in keeping up with their school work if they ever fell behind. This decision eventually led her to the arms of Mordechai Boaz, who became Lanie’s first love. Their torrid romance was nothing short of a rollercoaster, but the two of them were too stubborn and enamoured to do anything other than fight for their love. Eventually, the Lancasters opened up their home to Decky and his brother Danny, and the three teenagers coexisted in harmony. The young couple matured and grew stronger with every day that went by, and they spent many hours dreaming about the future they would build together. But, of course, fate decided to play one of her endless cards of cruelty yet again. This time, however, it was poor Danny Boaz and innocent classmates the ones who had to pay the price of an unhinged pariah. The victims of Charlie’s rage extended far beyond those injured. Even those who had survived it physically unscathed like Lanie did suffered the consequences of being entangled with those who hadn’t.

Finding out about Decky’s unannounced departure on top of everything else was the breaking point for young Lanie. All the grief, guilt, sadness and despair that had plagued her since Alison’s death and tripled after the shooting bubbled up to the surface, erupting into a full-on mental breakdown that resulted in Lanie being committed to the mental wing of the local hospital. It was during this time that she bonded with fellow classmate Roddy Callahan, someone who she had only known in passing in the years prior. After she had recovered from her episode and the school reopened, the cheerleader volunteered to make sure her new friend didn’t fall behind the rest of their class. Their study/therapy sessions slowly blossomed into the sweet romance that would eventually climax in the untimely, accidental conception of their daughter Rylie. As awkward as was the prospect of having a child with someone you barely knew, Elaine and Roderick somehow managed to make it work. Their relationship strengthened with time, and for a while it seemed that everything was starting to fall into place. Unfortunately, it seemed that Roddy had demons that no amount of love and reassurance from his girlfriend could fight off. A few weeks before she was scheduled to start her first semester of college, the young man had decided to end things. With her heart broken all over again, new mom Lanie chose to follow her parents in moving back to another suburb in the big city with her daughter.

These days, Elaine Lancaster has no time or interest in pursuing anything other than her social work degree and the care of Rylie. She hasn’t regretted having her baby or Roddy being the child’s father, but oftentimes wishes she had no meaningful, significant ties like these to such a cursed town like Edenridge.[/indent]
