Yamtu is god of the sea, but labeling him as such is erroneous. He holds dominion over bodies of water and all that live beneath the surface, yet it is not merely lordship of water that he lays claim to. More accurately, Yamtu is master of the deep: the abyss yawning below the waves. It is he who sailors worship and fear in equal measure when they cast out to sea. All seafaring peoples dread Yamtu's embrace when they leave the comfort of land behind. The seas are always hungry: the mouth of the deep is always open, eager to devour whatever sinks beneath the inky waves. Yamtu is at his element in the darkest reaches of the sea, where the sun does not penetrate. His palace is the vast, unfathomable depths and his is the power of raging, primordial waters.[/center]

Yamtu is able to manifest via bodies of water, appearing as a humanoid made of liquid. This form is most often used when interacting with other gods. None can say whether this is truly Yamtu or merely a projection, as this form is liable to collapse into a puddle of water when the god has said all he means to.[/center]

Yamtu’s true form is as malleable as the water of his domain. The sea may be calm one moment and roil the next. So is Yamtu ever-changing. Waves may seem like the semblance of a face leering back towards the shore. The horizon might betray the shape of a finned hump breaching water. Sailors swear they once glimpsed the shadow of something terrible and cyclopean beneath their vessels. Survivors of wrecks will rave, half mad, of tendrils and bulbous eyes illuminated by the lightning flash of storms. Who is to say Yamtu is all or none of these apparitions?[/center]
