So, to lessen your waiting, here is almost entirely the Character Sheet I will have you use for your characters. Some of it will of course make more sense once I've gotten the OOC up, but I think it's functional. As I put this in the "Free section", I am not expecting an essay for your characters, and if you want to be of an original alien species I don’t need the same amount of rambling as I put to show some guidelines. Above anything, ask me to elaborate and clarify if you have a question :)
Character Sheet: Name: Species: Age: Sex: Appearance: Assignment: (why are you on this ship traveling thousands of lightyears to bring both cargo and people to systems far apart? Are you a passenger? A stoveaway? One of the crew? One of those weirdo scientists and researchers that are always on any given deep space vessel?) Equipment: (please keep it relevant to your ship assignment and below knowledge and skills) Augments: (are you genetically or cybernetically augmented) Skills:(base it on education and some background knowledge - (no elite soldier professors thank you very much) Education: (Maximum of two PhD’s or specialities within a core or market if you want to be anything close to expert or highly skilled) Personality: Biography:
If you want to be something strange and original, please give an explanation of them in “hiders”. If you want to be an alien from any media, they will be fit to this universe, not the other way around) The crew and passengers of the ship are from many different space-faring people, with a few restrictions; All have some version of eyes, manipulation extremities, and are on the physical size between a cat and an elephant. There are no gaseous or liquid species, and while there are cyborgs and androids, there are no societies of anything but either Artificial “Narrow” or “General” Intelligences, hardware and energy is a physical limitation. There are no known biologically immortal species. --- While active space travel affects the mental faculties of all species in terms of spatial awareness to some degree and muscle-loss relative to perceived gravity, genetic modification has a bigger impact on species as a whole. Regarding genetic and cybernetic modification; Most wealthy strata of any genetically advanced society have done away with common genetic issues, though not all. Most actively tailored genetic changes are done before the individual is born, changing a grown individual requires increment changes by RNA-viruses or similar, and are not in any way pleasant for the recipient. There is no known way to be biologically immune to high doses of radiation (like that of outer space). There is no quicker than a day for regeneration of extremities or internal organs, and complexity lengthens the timetable. Cybernetics can be anything from an extra arm to a surveillance eye, while more advanced are bio-integrated circuitry or replacement organs. No replacement brains neither grown nor built are viable. Biological printers and specialized cybernetic enhancements are advanced technology in any society. --- Regarding mental and psychic abilities; The brains of living things are remarkable, but so are fusion-powered supercomputers, and you don’t see them lifting things out of touch. Seriously however, some species have evolved or engineered their brains and nervous systems to handle vast amounts of information and energy (comparatively speaking). This has NOT given rise to any amazing telekinetic abilities. There are those whose brains analyze incoming sensory information with enough speed and precision that they effectively see anything in the vicinity, know things about others and their surroundings, feel emotions and thoughts of others. With the right cybernetic enhancements on both parties, the reading of minds, even mind to mind communication is possible. (though implanted wireless devices are a lot more convenient) All of this has already been employed in some way by simple animals and plants through pheromones, infra/ultrasound, EM-radiation and any other biological processes. “Technomancers” in the definition of having cybernetic implants that allow you to link with and either read and or write to/control digital/electrical systems with the right interface, of course exist. But the complexity, range and speed with which such is done also tax the mental faculties of the individual in question. Burning a neuro-integrated circuit is not fun, or healthy. Any species experimenting with the idea of “psychic powers” come to the same conclusion; “Any apparent effect on the macro scale requires unacceptable amounts of energy to emanate EMQFs with stable localized micro points wherein interference can be achieved. Side effects include temperature fluctuations and static charges along with harmful radiation. This results in the desired effects negated and overwhelmed. While cascade effects can be theorized, computation and reliable utilization is the realm of speculative science."
