Looks interesting enough. Mind if I join?
Name: Dayvt Ryncol Age: 27 Gender: Male Race: Human Rank: 4 of Swords Appearance: Personality: Someone who fancies himself a businessman first and an adventurer second. Jovial but taciturn Dayvt does his best to be an honest and kind person in appearance but his actions reveal other sides that he isn't so much bothered by, but knows not to make known in polite company. A pragmatist who ultimately looks out for his own self-interests, even at the detriment of others, and a cynic as well. But he believes that at the heart of every cynic is an disappointed idealist and so Dayvt often tries to find the best things out of a bad situation, if only to make failures less painful. He's certainly not a man without emotions but at the same time he knows to harden his heart when doing dark deeds, and doesn't particularly question the morality of many of the things he does as long as there is a clear goal and reward for doing so. Dayvt is a consummate professional and while he doesn’t make it a habit to deceive others, that doesn’t mean he isn’t trying to manipulate you for his own ends. Brief Backstory: Dayvt was never destined to have a 'normal' life considering the circumstances of his birth. His mother was a slave, brought for her appearance and intended to be used to fulfill the dark desires of wealthy but morally poor men. His father was any one of those men, and when Dayvt was born he was simply sold off as a slave alongside his mother. He and his mother were soon sold to a mercenary captain who was kinder than most: while a gruff and harsh man, he was willing to take Dayvt as an apprentice of sorts. And by that, Dayvt went alongside the captain into battle, often preforming menial but dangerous tasks such as loading his crossbow, looting the dead during battle, and protecting the man’s plunder from other Mercs and thieves. Still this man was the closest thing Dayvt had to a father figure and despite being being his slave, he taught Dayvt how to fight and be a mercenary. By the time Dayvt was a young man his mother died of a disease and a few years after his quasi-father was killed in battle. It was a disastrous battle for the mercenary company, and while they ultimately won they had lost so many that the group dissolved thanks to the death of the leadership. And so Dayvt was out of a job, and didn't have any friends with the company to try and find work with them. Instead he decided to seek work with the trade caravans that would have followed the mercenaries, and became a hired sword for the Merchant's Guild. At first he was simply guarding their caravans for some low coin, but soon Dayvt started going after more lucrative contracts involving bounty hunting. The Merchant's Guild was in need of someone who could collect live bounties from people who own them a debt or stole from them, and Dayvt had the skill and will to track these people down. Is was during his career as a bounty hunter Dayvt began to hone his skills in battle. No long could he rely on his fellow warriors to watch his back. He had to learn how to fight with more cunning, using weapons that won't be useful in a battlefield but helped him immensely during his hunts. In the beginning, Dayvt went after a lot of crude characters. Little more than thieves who never intended to pay for their debts, consorting with the likes of bandits and even necromancers for dark deeds. However as time went on, more often than not Dayvt went after folks who took out a loan to start a business that failed, and now were on hard times. Most couldn't even pay their debts and tried to run away to start a new life, only for Dayvt to find them and bring them back. These people occasionally had protection, sometimes shady figures who likely would've gotten them into more trouble. But more often than not, they sought safety with their families, forcing Dayvt to cut down parents, children, and other relatives who were just trying to protect their loved ones from whatever fate awaited them at the Merchant's Guild. Over the next few years Dayvt was receiving less and less requests to hunt for bounties, and what few he was getting weren't worth the trouble and usually over a petty amount of money. He stayed on as a guard but the wages he earned was barely enough to keep his equipment kept and himself fed, and frankly he was getting tired of having to shake down poor business owners for money they don't have. The caravan he was with arrived n Estival when he heard about the Adventuring Guild here. Though he always dismissed being an Adventurer as a thing written in romantic novels, it is a legitimate occupation and business was booming. Not one to burn bridges however, Dayvt made sure to make his contacts available as he sought to join the adventuring guild, using his experience as a Mercenary to rise up in the ranks, make new friends, and make a tidy profit as well. Equipment: Greataxe - A double-headed, hefty cleaving weapon, and the one that Dayvt used the most in his career as a warrior. Cheaper than a sword but capable of rending through flesh, bone, and metal alike, Dayvt's axe has served him well over the years. The weight of the weapon ensures even a blow that's blocked or parried could stagger his enemy, though he needs to be careful not to miss or else he'll leave himself open to retaliation. Shortsword - Longer than a dagger but shorter than your typical arming sword, this is Dayvt's sidearm and general purpose tool for cutting, stabbing, and occasionally throwing at the enemy. Though it has a cutting edge it's designed more for thrusting, especially against thick armor. Dayvt generally uses this to finish off a tough enemy or to quickly kill one he has the element of surprise on. Arbalest - A momento of his mentor and the closest thing he had to a father. A crossbow so heavy it uses a mechanical windlass system to draw back the string. Slow and cumbersome, but bolt from this weapon has enough strength to punch through even the strongest plate and the toughest hide, trading speed for power. Dayvt will generally shoot this first when the fight starts and then put it aside to charge into melee. Brigandine - What appears to be merely leather armor is actually an intricate suit of armor made of multiple layers of leather, chain, and plate in order to create a highly resistant but budget set of armor. Covers his full body for maximum protection. Has a full metal helmet strong enough to deflect most blows. Thunder Stones - Alchemical rocks that, when struck against a hard surface, release a deafening boom and a blinding flash of light to anyone near the point of impact. Fairly expensive, but Dayvt makes sure to stay stocked up on these items for their usefulness in getting the advantage against the enemy. More so when he puts one at the end of a crossbow bolt and stuns enemies from 100 meters away. Smoke Stick - Alchemically treated wooden stick instantly creates thick, opaque smoke when broken. Good to give some concealment against enemy eyes and can easily be lit with just a spark. Useful to cover a retreat, or to surprise an enemy when you're on the attack. Caltrops - Dayvt carries a bag full of spikes he can spread on the ground to stab the feet of anyone who runs across them. Useful for cutting the mobility of fast creatures, and even slow and armored ones will have a hard time fighting when their feet and toes are in agonizing pain. Dayvt specifically commissions these to be made out of silver, as it's said that silver weapons can harm foul creatures such as the undead, who by nature of what they are wouldn't normally be affected by caltrops. Hook and Rope - An unusual weapon for a warrior but Dayvt's primary tool when he was a bounty hunter. This grappling hook not only enables him to reach places that he couldn't climb or jump but it can also be used to ensnare his enemies, restricting their movements or even restraining them if he can grapple and bind their limbs. Even without the hook Dayvt can simply turn his rope into a lasso and bind an enemy that way. Or if the target proves too tough for even that, he can simply strangle them with the noose. Skills: Combat - Dayvt is a seasoned warrior, familiar with how to conduct himself in both a military formation as well as a free-for-all brawl. He favors his battleaxe as his primary weapon, taking advantage of it's reach to keep enemies at bay as well as using it's shape to disarm his foes and catch their limbs for pins and grappling. Additionally Dayvt is deceptively good at wrestling and can often escape a foe's attempt to grapple him and is fully capable of restraining someone twice his size or more. His range abilities are decent, but no where near as good as what you'd expect from a seasoned warrior. This was mostly due to Dayvt's upbringing: bows are expensive and require a lot of skill to use, which Dayvt simply never had the time or money to learn. And the only crossbow he's ever had was the one his mentor owned, and Dayvt didn't get much practice with it until after his mentor died. Still he's good enough to hit someone with it, though he's not likely to do anything too impressive with his crossbow. Stealth - Despite his gear making him look like the part of a warrior, most of Dayvt's skills lied in stealth. He took advantage of his dark equipment to move about shadows, combined with his decent strength enabling him feats of athleticism such as climbing walls or trees, lifting heavy objects to set up an escape or trap, and being able to wrestle down a man with the element of surprise and slaying them on the spot. Dayvt's skills enable him to be quite an assassin, though not much of a thief: he has no idea how to operate a lockpick and while he knows and has the senses to spot a trap his means of disarming them tends to involve brute force instead of finesse. Perceptive - Being able to notice the tide of battle is an important trait for a mercenary, and Dayvt is as skilled as any soldier. Dayvt's good at spotting danger whether he's actively fighting an opponent or sneaking around. In particular he has a keen sense of terrain and can pretty much sniff out an ambush. Traps are bit harder for him to notice due to inexperience, but even so he tends to have a good sense of when something seems off by virtue of being too easy. Additionally he has a very keen nose and has learn to smell things most people don't notice and thus, don't bother to hide. Lastly he’s an excellent tracker, and with some time he can often identify what sort of threat he’s up against via their tracks, such as their numbers, size, and potentially even equipment and abilities. Hardiness - Dayvt would never had made it this far into his life if he simply wasn't tough. Many compare Dayvt to a dwarf in terms of his sturdiness, and his ability to hold his ground even while outnumbered and outsized is notable for a human. That being said, Dayvt is by no means invincible and generally speaking he's still very much a normal human, and thus dies via normal means. Dayvt's just the kind of person who can roll with the punches and doesn't crumble just because he gets cornered. Defensive Style - Contrary to his appears as a mere brute, Dayvt's actually defensive oriented fighter. While he can certainly unleash a strong attack whenever he wants he's at his best when he is attacked instead, using a combination of his weapon, armor, and skills to counter his enemy's attacks and then delivery a strong often lethal blow against them. This in turn actually makes him even more brutal, as he's as dangerous fighting defensively as offensively. Berserker Rage - The secret to Dayvt’s success. Honing his raw emotions into a fine edge of hatred and spite, Dayvt can fly into a violent fury that enables him to shrug off mortal wounds, attack with greater strength, and even shake off some magical effects on his mind and body. However this isn’t something he can do all the time nor for a very long time; he usually can only do this in short bursts for about a minute, and it puts strain on his body so he can’t do it more than a few times a day. Typically his trump card to turn around a bad situation, or an ace he’ll pull to ensure an overwhelming victory against his enemy.
