Vess has a slender frame, standing at about 5'6. She wears form fitting black clothes with baggy scarves and hoods over it, she protects her mouth and nose. She is lined with tight leather straps, satchels, and pouches. [*][u][b]Personality[/b][/u]: A well-meaning, extroverted trickster of a rogue. Vess isn't above crime, as long as whoever she's stealing from has it coming. (I.e- rich.) She likes to think she has a good sense of humor, and she loves meeting new people and making friends. Vess has a love for theatrics and dramatic entrances and exits. Vess is a thrillseeker, going on adventures for both the money and for the fun. She'd never say she's a hero but she is also quite altruistic with her intentions, not keeping the majority of her earnings. Charming, sociable, and empathetic, she's not exactly what you might imagine when you think of a rogue dressed in all black. Still, she loves sticking to the shadows and exploring dark places. Vess is relentlessly courageous, always willing to go first and take dangers head on...from behind. Vess isn't afraid to get into a fight but she's not a very violent person, and she's also not very skilled at straight up conflict. [*][u][b]Brief Backstory[/b][/u]: Vess used to be a part of a travelling circus. She was born and raised by performers and surrounded by colorful, bombastic outcasts of all kinds. She learned to be a gymnast, a bard, and she took a particular interest in close up magic. It was a hard life, but a fun one. From her time there she learned not to judge a book by its cover, and even the strangest people get the benefit of the doubt from Vess. Including the more monstrous races, given several were members of the circus. As they were travelling far north, they were attacked by a group of viscious bandits. Vess' family was killed in the battle, and the circus was scattered. In the madness, Vess found herself alone and orphaned. She got lost, and continued north. She made it to a dark elf settlement. From when she was ten, until she was thirteen, she lived by herself. She put her circus-learned skills to good use, scavenging, begging, performing, stealing for money. Eventually she was found and taken in by a school for Dark Elvish assassins and thieves. When she wasn't there, she was living at a nearby orphanage that they assigned her too. It became her life. The Head Mistress was strict and stern, the weather unforgiving, but her belly was full and her heart began to mend once again. It was here she learned to become an adventurer, a skillset related to Coin. There she trained and performed various tasks of dubious legality. When she was 21, she graduated, and returned to her homeland of Estival and found her way to the Adventurers Guild. She became the patron of several orphanages in Venne. Most of her earnings go to various charitable causes. Vess has little need for gold outside of resupplies, a decent roof over her head, and occasional luxuries. She's an adventurer for the fun of it. [*][u][b]Equipment[/b][/u]: Tools of the Trade: Lockpicks, pliers, scissors, a mirror set on a handle, a file. Anything a thief could need for opening chests, disarming traps, and getting into places they don't belong. Billy Club: Both a tool for prying things open and for breaking kneecaps. Climbers Kit, Custom Pitons: Durable hemp ropes. Heavy, sharp pitons for tying off ropes and getting up and down hard to reach, natural formations. They also make lethal daggers. Smoke Bombs: High impact smoke bombs that create a thick cloud of smoke very quickly. Flash Pellets: Disorienting pellets to be thrown at enemies. Boot Knife: A small knife in her right boot. Magician's Kit: She leaves it at home. Playing cards, tarot cards, dice, trick cups. A lute. Sleeping Powder: Throw this in the face of someone who's unconscious, or nearly so, to keep them unconscious for 24 hours. Turns any knock out blow into a beauty nap! [*][u][b]Skills[/b][/u]:[/list] Shadow Strand: Vess's most recognizable tool, her signature ability. She possesses the ability to control a Shadow Strand, a self-made technique based on Dark Elf magic. From her body she can produce 100ft of an inky, pitch black string, or rope. It's highly durable, and can stick to any surface. It's nearly silent, the only noise it creates sounding like a low note on a cello. She can separate it into multiple pieces and use it like normal ropes. Any Shadow Strand left in the open disintigrates in 24 hours, or 3 hours, if its direct sunlight. It's strong enough to carry more than her own body weight. It's an incredibly versatile and useful tool. This is her primary weapon, as well, the Strand useful for disarming and tripping up enemies. Especially if they are already distracted by a teammate. She can even use it to make a lethally accurate slingshot/crossbow, embedding a Piton within it and firing the bolt out at killer speeds. It's sticky, viscous nature allows her to bind things to other things, including someone's mouth shut, or someone's hand to a wall. Shadow Sight: Vess can concentrate and see in the dark or through smoke. Her eyes turn a little red when this happens. Acrobat: Vess has perfect balance. She can do backflips a plenty and one handed hand stands. Scaling walls and high, narrow places is easy peasy. She was taught this in the circus and has been doing it since she was a kid. Infiltrator: Vess can walk silently and quickly, and knows how to avoid detection. She's learned how to scout places out, notice patterns, and knows the psychological mindgames on where people look, and what they do and do not notice. Sleight of Hand: Vess has excellent hand-eye coordination and has learned a variety of skills in order to accomodate this. -Lockpicker: Dark Elf techniques were passed onto her on how to pick locks and bypass security. -Disarmer: People like protecting valuable things. Vess likes valuable things. She was taught by the Dark Elves how to detect and disarm traps of all kinds. -Pickpocket: She learned this one on the streets- how to snatch items from someones person without them noticing. -Close up Magic: Close up magic! Card tricks, ball and cup tricks, all that good stuff. Silver Tongue: Vess has a natural charisma about her. She can turn up the charm to decieve, persuade, or even seduce her targets. To compound on this, she's great with a lute and has a nice singing voice. Street Fighter: Vess is skilled in combat, but isn't a hard hitter, and can be outdone by even adaquate fighters and martial artists. She's better than your average guard or orc. But instead, she focuses more on confusing, disrupting, and outsmarting her opponents with tricks. Assassinate: Though she doesn't prefer to do it, she definitely can. Vess is capable of ending lives quickly and quietly. Be it with her Custom Pitons or her Shadow Strand. She prefers to choke someone unconscious, and feed them sleeping powder. But when it comes to monsters, she can take them with ease. [/hider] I've noticed we're a bit lacking on the tank side of things, so I'm thinking of making a paladin of Reon, too.
